Description
No Regret begins 46 hours after the events of No Remorse. The Silencer’s escape pod is picked up by a freighter that is headed to the WEC penitentiary mining facility on the Moon, where political dissidents and Resistance members are held. The mining operation there is the key to destabilizing the entire WEC structure from within, and this is why Chairman Draygan himself is overseeing the program. The Resistance has also managed to install a cell on the Moon and is trying to delay the Di-Corellium extraction as much as possible. All the pieces are in place and it is up to you to make the first move—and the last one.

Compared to its predecessor, Crusader: No Regret is much more straightforward, and with a higher emphasis on action. This is by no means a bad thing, because sometimes good old-fashioned shotgun diplomacy is the right solution to the problem, and the Silencer is an unquestionable expert in this field.

One of my favourites from the mid-90s!

The two Crusader games were among my favourites back in the day. I played through them both multiple times, and always felt that it was a real shame a third instalment was never made to finish off the Silencer's story. For the time, Crusader has great graphics, audio and soundtrack. The destructible environments were a real novelty back then, and still offer more destruction than many shooters do today. The fact you play as a character with a strong resemblance to Bobba Fett is a nice touch, and there is a diverse array of weapons to dispatch your countless foes. In terms of difficulty, the game can be pretty tough on anything other than the easiest setting. There are no magically self-recharging health bars here, and ammo can be an issue if you're too trigger-happy. The better weapons (energy-based) also force you to compromise since energy is also required to power your shields. However, I rarely feel like the game is being "unfair" with bullet-sponge enemies or any of that nonsense. Enemies and defences simply become more numerous and better laid out, requiring a bit more thought and precision to defeat. However, talking of precision leads onto Crusaders one flaw, at least in my eyes. Controls. The developers have clearly tried to make the Silencer as mobile as was possible for the time, but the result is a control scheme that is decidedly "clunky" by more modern standards. That said, the game can be enjoyed via keyboard/mouse or controller, with a little setup and forgiveness! Should you buy these games? If you enjoyed them back in the day and want to relive the experience, certainly. If you are of the younger generations, want to see how games have evolved, and can put up with a fair bit of "clunkiness", give them a try. But if you have never played old games and expect them to live up to current standards, you will be disappointed. Note that both games should be played to get the full story, though No Regret has a few minor improvements over No Remorse.

Play No Remorse instead

I just recently finished No Remorse (again), and wanted to try No Regret. What I love about No Remorse is the badass intro (any good game got to have this), intriguing plotline, good level design and balanced yet challenging and fun gameplay. No Regret have none of this. "But Tom, it's basically the same game" I hear you say. Well, yes...and no. Actually they changed the gameplay a far bit: It's much more fluid and faster now. You can also roll forward. The problem is that now the level design is too linear, and there are traps basically every step of the way. In every friggin hallway you encounter mines, booby traps, mecs, enemies constantly spawning in front and behind you. I feel like the devs who made this map just want to annoy the player and not want them to succeed. You will constantly be saving and reloading since you sort of have to predict what is ahead of you for to survive. They turned it more into a slow and strategic puzzle game. Which is not what Crusader No Remorse was about: It was about running in, gunning everything that you saw and sometimes dodge away with cool animations. Instead No Regret makes you slowly check every detail of a room before you slowly take your baby steps to make sure you set off no traps. It's just frustrating and boring. Also the plotline is boring and not interesting. In the original you had a very unique and cool consept: You were working for the bad guys, but your team fucked up and now they want you killed. So you escape and starts working for the rebels, which don't trust you to begin with. So you have to earn your trust. It also had some big twists in the end which made you just curious how the story ended. Sadly with No Regret I quit playing after 3 missions. It was just tedious, boring and not interesting. Sad. Because I love No Remorse and will probably play it many more times before my demise.

Well worth your time and money!

This game is probably one of the most underrated games in history. This game was freaking tits when I was a little kid! Exceptionally good graphics for it's time; made you wonder how so many other games after it got more of popularity. Very detailed environments. Super gory. Beating levels does require a lot of skill and use of tactics, and can be almost too hard at times, even on the easy game settings. Very retro soundtrack. Almost no bugs. Fairly decent acting in cut-scenes (though it does have a bit of a Mystery Science 3000 cheesiness to them.) Tons of phat weapons that shoot, blow up, burn, freeze, disintegrate, melt, or just eat the skin off your enemies like in Mars Attacks. Only things I didn't like are the camera doesn't follow you like it does in games like Diablo 2. Also action's could've been a bit faster paced. Controls are with the arrow keys as opposed to point and click. Even thought the first one was wildly successful, and probably more so than No Regret, I liked it better than No Remorse. It's a little less cheesey. I can carry all of the weapons rather than just 5. Levels aren't as long. Cut scenes don't look like they were filmed in a closet, and the ones that require special effects have REALLY good special effects. Music sounds a little less weird. So, yeah, all in all great game. Worth every star.
