Contra Anniversary Collection

In general, I admit that playing this compilation is a nice experience. I feel that the control is responsive enough and simple. I can use the keyboard instead of the gamepad (my personal preference) and still enjoy games from this compilation. Of course having all "emulation" features like saving the game at any moment, and choosing display "type" is a nice thing, although I can't help for having the feeling, that I don't have such freedom in those options as in any standard emulator - even with such trivial things, as changing control (by some bizarre reason, you can only change the action connected with key, but can't change the key used for the control). As for the choice of games - I'm very happy with the fact that we have both NES games (Contra and Super Contra), plus Contra III from SNES and Contra: Hard Corps from Mega drive. In my opinion, those four games are the main attraction of the collection. Arcade versions of the first two games are a nice addition (especially since they look and play differently), but I would personally prefer to have instead of some simple GB game or two Probotector games (that are basically reskinned Contra III and Contra: Hard Corps) for example Contra Force - I know, it's a spin-off, but still, I would prefer to have more "separate titles" instead of variations (or have all variations in one position, to switch between them). And ATM I feel like the "list of titles" is a bit artificially bloated. I'm perfectly fine with the Probotector variant, but it doesn't give much in terms of gameplay. That being said, the "main four" games are still fun to play and enjoyable. And served in a decent way. So definitely buy it at a discount.

I've had this collection on Steam as well ever since Konami put it out and I'm really glad to see GOG getting more of these titles available to buy here. Growing up, I had Operation C on Game Boy, Super C on NES, and Contra III on SNES. It's a real treat to be able to play these again along with some of the other games which I didn't have such as Contra Hard Corps on Genesis/Mega Drive and, of course, the arcade titles that you used to have to go to the arcades to play. I installed this today and played several of the games available and it works really good. It performed well on Steam when I played it and it's the same with the GOG version (at least in my case). I'm really enjoying it and I hope to see more of these collections coming to GOG.

Offers a nice selection of Contra games, as listed on the store-page, with multiple different regions including the Japanese versions and includes a "bonus book" on the main menu including the controls, abit about each game and even interviews and is a nice addition I've reduced it down to one star simply because the game ALWAYS starts windowed mode without fail, I also doesn't seem to be any 'exit' option so always having to rely on alt+f4 instead.. This is a little annoying having to keep putting my gamepad down and reach for the keyboard Emulation seems good so far, it offers a variety of scaling options including Pixel Perfect, and border artwork! Great little collection to add to your DRM-free library

Have the Castlevania Collection on the Switch and i am very glad that Konami put one of those now also here on Gog. The Contra Collection comes, as also the former named, with different Versions of the Games. So you can play Super Probotector with its Robots (i really like them, they have some Terminator Vibe) or the easier japanese Version of the Mega Drive Game. It also comes with a nice "Book" that containes Informations, Pictures, Scatches and Interviews - That surely takes most Space of the Installation ;). You also have different Display Modes, from 4:3 to Pixel Perfect and same with Scanlines... who uses stretched? You are able to chose between to Borders, could have been some more. You have an Autofire included that you can turn on by simply pressing L1. Here comes one Point why i only give it four Stars, you can't change the Controls in the Megadrive Games, you can in the others, but not there - Really Strange. Thats a negative Point as Jump is not on B (Nintendo Style, or A if you think MS Style), really unnatural to play in that Way. Fix that and bring us also the Castlevania Collection to Gog :)

For the emulation folks out there, this collection's removed the licensing test, if you go through the effort to extract these ROMs, ROM Hacks & Replays won't work. Not a huge deal, but annoying for those looking for "clean" ROMs, unless you manually patch them back.
