The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly warfare

I remember playing these games a very long time ago. I played the first one in the 90s when it came out. I still have the demo somewhere. They've actually been on GOG for a very long time, too, but I never bought them because I am not good at them. I remember constantly restarting over and over. But I just saw The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare today, which was a phenomenal film, and I was overwhelmed with nostalgia for this game because of that movie. I should be clear- this game is completely unrelated to Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is basically the story of how Ian Fleming came up with James Bond. However, that being said it still is in a lot of ways that too. Because both things talk about spies during World War 2 I guess. For some reason though it very much made me think of this series again. Now I want to get them, but I'll wait for a sale since they probably don't work without fiddling with them.

Absolute Classic!

Bought this when it was originally released when i was a kid, and man i spent hours upon hours perfecting my tactics, and using my imagination to recreate scenes from some of my favourite WW2 movies! You'll never replay each level quite the same way either. Having been a mac user for years now, i would love it if they offered Mac support for the Commando's series. I've recently purchased Desperados on GOG which has now been upgraded to include OSX and Linux compatibility, however im hoping this follows suite! If you've never played these games before, trust me... buy it and put in some time. Its one of the most rewarding, fun and enjoyable games ever.

Some of the best stealth ever

Commandos 2 is up there with the first two Thief games, most of the Hitman games and some of the Splinter Cell games in delivering the best stealth experiences. It is very much about taking your time and planning ahead, though it does definitely also deliver on short term gratification. The gameplay is addictive; it is hard to put into words how satisfying it is taking out Nazis. This game takes you to a lot of different parts of the entire planet, ones affected by World War 2, ensuring that you never tire of any one setting. The different Commandos each have skills, equipment and weapons that are unique to them, and the more you master, the greater variety is available to you. It's hard to overstate how massive an improvement this is on the already amazing original game and its expansion pack. There are several brand new features that greatly open up the game, including the inventory, the ability to actually move around inside of buildings, rather than just temporarily hiding, and the dramatic increase in how many different tools you have at your disposal. There are some parts of this where you can approach a specific situation )let's for example say that you have to get one or more Commandos from point A to point B) in a handful of distinctly different ways. You can play this many times without having to solve very many obstacles in the exact same way. I haven't played the co-op here on GOG, so I can't speak to if it runs well; but if it does I can tell you that though it definitely requires patient players it can be incredibly satisfying. Also note that for certain levels, chunks of the level won't allow use of each of the Commandos, meaning that a player may just have to sit and wait until the other player reaches the part where you get to play. I would recommend playing the levels solo first. Commandos 3 is fine; just soulless and a letdown compared to the Commandos games and expansion packs before it.

A fantastic journey of tactical fun

I played these games here on GOG for the first time, so no nostalgia factor for me. Commandos 2 is just a delight (haven't really begun to dig into 3). It lacks realism, but it allows for several different play styles and ways to subdue your enemies. My favorite? Have your sapper sneak up and plant a land mine, then have your spy, dressed in an officer's uniform, tell a soldier, "Hey, go walk over there. I think I heard something." KABOOM! Even on Very Hard, most of the levels in Commandos 2 are pretty easy unless you are taking the hardcore stealth approach, but it's just a good time throughout.

not working?

Hey guys, I have a problem, Commandos 2 just has one training map avaialble... the rest appear as preview, and 3 (Destination Berlin) is flickering the screen all the time... cannot even pass the menu as it flickers too much and also the mouse leaves trails etc etc I have Windows 8.1 and tried setting up compatibility for the game/executable but to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
