Beautiful little gem
One of the few pixel-art roguelite that felt captivating and engagingto me. You get a wide set of different heroes that have different playstyles - the game rewards you leveling up all of them as they give you passive bonuses your favorite characters. The difficulty is challenging but not frustrating and most importantly you get the feeling of progress as you level up - theres always a feeling of reward which keeps things interesting. A bit of a downside here: the story ends the moment the battles get more interesting due to the broader set of skills and their synergies at your disposal which start to develop later in the game (to be fair, you could still play NG+ or the infinitive/hardcore game mode if that's you thing). The artstyle captures the magical side of the fantasy genre very well - sadly the dungeons themselves aren't half as beautiful as the surroundings, which are only shown a few times apart from the Bergsons house and garden. The focus of the game however is on the story and the characters and it does a damn good job at that (altough I would have loved to learn more about the mysterious visitor 'Apan'). While it all starts out pretty generic the story gets a lot darker than you would have imagined. Also a downside here: while start and middle of the tale are fleshed out and engaging, the end feels rushed an lackluster. TL;DR: Like a previous Reviewer said: mix of Binding of Isaac in terms of playstyle (a lot more fun and variation though imo) and Bastion in terms of narration (while the narrator is very good, Bastion is a bit better here). Still TL: If you like the Screenshots, buy the game. It's beautiful.
