Story
Following the events of Call of the Machine, The Machine was left trapped in the Void — a dimension between worlds. Isolated from time and space, with no way back to his own reality, he drifts in the darkness until he is contacted by an ancient, consciousness: one of the Vadrigar, gods of the Arena Eternal. The Vadrigar reveals that the Strogg, in their post-defeat dimensional explorations, have imprisoned fellow Vadrigar once defeated by a mortal and other creatures from the Dreamlands, using them as raw material. Through their biomechanical technology, the Strogg have begun creating a new army of hybrids: demons enhanced with implants, gods turned into living generators, ogres fused with precision weaponry. Their goal is clear: to resume the war against humanity, this time with an impossible legion.
This profanation is not only a threat, but a direct offense to all of the opposing factions among the Vadrigar. They cannot intervene directly… but they can use The Machine as their instrument of retribution. In exchange for being freed from the Void and returned to his own dimension, he accepts one final mission: travel to the convergent dimension forged by Strogg technology, where the times and realms of Quake 1 and Quake 2 are merging, and destroy the hybrid army before it can invade human reality. Along the way, he must navigate demon-infested temples laced with Strogg machinery, factories where biomechanical monstrosities are assembled, and war zones where the last remnants of each realm struggle to survive. In his path lie what remains of Chthon and Shub-Niggurath, now enslaved and twisted beyond recognition by technology.

Excellent! Better than NightDive!
Amazing rendition that filled that weird change of theme between the OG Quake games. Sooo well done!

Highly recommended!
EDIT: I checked the game now (October 8th 2025) and the issue I originally described below (which occurred around September 18th) is gone! I am not sure if the devs patched the bug (I assume they did), but I am really glad it was not intended behavior after all. With that problem gone, I gladly rate the mod at 5/5. If you like Quake, try it out! Original review: To get to the gist: I honestly recommend all Quake fans to try and play Call of the Void. The level design is wonderful and provides a really attractive blend of Quake and Quake II. Get ready to get MANY "nostalgia injections" throughout your playthrough. I also really enjoyed the soundtrack, which added to the overall atmosphere. New enemies are also a nice touch, though I didn't like all the combinations (though I have my favorites - especially all new kinds of shamblers :D) That being said, there is unfortunately one problem, which made me take a full star away from the rating - the final boss fight. Without spoiling too much, the general idea is good - it's very much in the vein of what we could see in past entries of the series and veterans of Quake will definitely appreciate both the design of the final boss as well as his surrounding. However, there is also a completely unnecessary (to my mind) addition - our camera goes completely haywire as soon as the fight starts. I honestly cannot understand who thought it would be "fun". It actually looks more like a bug, than a feature and I sure hope that's the case and it will be fixed. With the camera and controls being chaotic, one cannot really focus on looking at the boss or having any sort of reasonable fight - you just do your best to run forward and complete the "puzzle" to kill the boss ASAP, essentially doing it half-blindly. It's not cool and not fun. I honestly hope there will be a patch which will make it a "normal" fight and if the creators want to add some challenge, then they should just increase the monster count for the location or something. Using a gimmick like they did is not the way to go. Still, as originally stated, I really recommend to try the mod and enjoy the wonderful level design, among other positive traits. If you like Quake then definitely do it!
