If you want to try one point and click adventure game, start with this one.
Broken Sword is the best of it all. Personally, that game gave the desire to play more of these game but not all are as good as this one.
The story is amazing, the dialogues are funny and well written, the puzzles are cool and the characters are lovable. Don't forget the environment, which is beautiful (places like Paris, Ireland, Spain, Syria,... are all well represented and drawn) and the animations are just great.
This game is worth buying and having. i have played a hundred times and i am still invested.
I have to give this 'director's cut' version of Broken Sword a low score. I enjoy the original two games (Shadow of the Templar and Smoking mirror). There is little replay value other than for the story and nostalgia. But first time play through is great, for any adventure fan. Get the original from Amazon on CD its dirt cheep and much better than this directors cut.

After playing, Its obvious this version was for Nintendo DS and has been ported to PC, Why doesn't GOG list the original game?
my reasons for low score:
1) Pretty much every card (playable area) in the game had a cinematic or two in the original, all of which are cut from this version. In my opinion the game feels empty without them. These cut scenes would play after the key puzzle in the current area was solved, and now in place is nothing, just a line of dialogue in a couple of instances.
2) The whole graphical user interface has been re-done to the same effect as the crowd funded Broken Sword 5, it's a lot less fitting than the original system. It feels like a mobile or flash game GUI and doesn't fit the game's look and feel at all.
3) During conversations with NPCs we have portrait's in respective corners of the screen. They are terrible and really distract from the hand drawn scene in front of you.
4) The additions too this game are poor. They really stand from the original game design, some of Nico's parts are entertaining but their placement breaks up the story telling and shifts the spotlight from our hero George Stobart.
5) My biggest gripe with this version.
No Death state. In the original certain actions would render George caught and dead, with accompanying cinematic scenes. No deaths in this version!
If your new to broken sword play the original this versions of 1 and 2, they are great. Broken sword 5 is worth a shot too, after playing 1+2, but as for this one, steer well clear,
THIS IS A DIRTY DS PORT!
This is an atrocity. It feels like a completely different game. And a bad one. The story has been changed, scenes added and removed, the voice acting is -censored-, not helping is the absence of sound engineering with dialogues mixed from different recordings oh so obviously; even the music sounds horrible for some reason. The reworked art reminds me of those prefabs everyone added to adverts in the era of Clippy. Even the intro, oh, the intro. And let's not even start with the technical aspects of the game, like "fullscreen" being devoid of any resolution settings, simply being a maximized borderless window with a horrible, blurry, upscale from the original 640x480. FFmpeg has better upscaling and it's real-time (which, honestly, this probably is, too, it would explain why it's so bad). Obviously nobody bothered to retouch the art, they simply added more where needed so new scenes have background that is sharp while the original sprites are upscaled and seem like they actually have some jpeg artifacts in "fullscreen", in scenes where they added some comparatively high-res videos in corners of the screen, at least three layers of incompatible pictures, resolution-wise, are clearly visible.
You can actually get the original if you download it separately by going to goodies/extras section - for some reason, it's not included in the game download. I suggest those who want to find out why so many people loved Broken Sword to ignore the main content and only focus on the extras.
1 star for DC, +1 star for GOG's "packaging" (inclusion of the original).
...that I had been looking for something just like this game, until I found it. Sometimes taking a journey through the past pays off. To think that this game is as old as Cobra 11!
Broken Sword is the game that introduced me to the point and click adventure genre. Beautiful music, beautiful artwork, great story, great voice acting, the atmosphere is just unbeatable. This game defines nostalgia for me, seeing that white hand pointing me in certain directions and picking things up just makes me feel like I'm back in the ninetees.
Buy it, if not for nostalgia, for haviong the best adventure games have to offer in your hands.
PS: Am I the only one who think it's silly to have a huge spoiler already on the new cover of the game?
