Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

Cela me fait le plus grand bien de retrouver un jeu auquel je jouais étant gamin sur Playstation ! C'est toujours aussi plaisant, les sensations de l'époque sont bien là, que ce soit au travers des musiques, des vieilles animations 2D ou encore du gameplay. Mon seul regret étant que GOG ne propose pas la version Française alors qu'elle existe. Je ne suis pas certain que cela leur couterai beaucoup plus à proposer.

After all these years, the OG is finally availabIe. This is such an amazing game. Really ahead of its time storytelling on the medium even if the graphics were a little shaky by the late 90s. This game still hold up as an M rated action adventure akin to Zelda. The Legacy of Kain series went through several permutations over the years, so fair warning that this game is not like the others. Its a top-down action RPG with strong storytelling. I rarely review games on GOG because I know what that most of these purchases are pure nostalgia buys and it doesn't really matter what people think - you're either going to buy it or you won't - but in this case, do yourself a favor and buy this game even if you're a new player.

Disclaimer. I haven't played or better finished the other Legacy of Kain games but the first is the best by far as far as: 1. Narration. ( Every small inside dialogue Kain has and the cutscenes are masterpieces ) 2. Environment. ( many different environments depicted something that in my opinion could not be depicted in 3d graphics ) 3. Atmosphere. ( Event if the graphics are a bit dated ) 4. Gameplay. ( Simple but effective to drive you through the game ) 5. Voice Acting ( You could not find some else more fitting that Simon Templeman ) 6. Vae Victis! ( Enough Said )

I’ve never played any of the Legacy of Kain games until very recently. But I randomly stumbled upon a video of Blood Omen and heard Kain, the main character, speak. And I instantly fell in love. So – I hastened to play Blood Omen just to listen to MORE OF KAIN. And I did recently finish it and it was pretty awesome. Now, playing Blood Omen is easily worth it in my mind just to experience the glory of Kain, the progatonist. He’s wonderfully acted and written. He speaks as if he was a character in a Shakespearan play, his words full of gravitas, arrogance and majesty. He’s a vain noble who seems to disdain all other denizens of Nosgoth, be they peasantry, other nobles or kings. He waxes poetic about torture and fantasizes whimsically about rape and pillage. And he does all of that in a wonderfully voiced performance. That being said, the story in itself was also not that bad – that vain noble reborn as an even more vain vampire with a bloodlust boosted by dark powers, and his journey through the dark, gloomy lands of Nosgoth to hunt down crazed magicans... And the exploration was top notch – there is a hundred secrets in the game, and I really did try to look for them and explore around, but I only found about half. So I’m pretty sure that to find all 100 would require significant effort and time. Overall, I feel that Blood Omen was a wonderful introduction to the series and well worth a play even in 2021. I had a blast and will definitely be checking the rest of the series.
