Could have been much better...
Settings, background, lore : it's intriguing and appealing, even disturbing. Graphics : nice pixel art, love the custscenes that reminds of the good ol' days. Music : great score by Carlos Viola, add a lot to the atmosphere. Gameplay : much much to be desired... The combat system itself is quite rewarding and satisfying, i love the impact of the hero's sword on the enemies, and the various combo, skills and power are really fun to use. But the controls are very clunky, moving your character often leads to frustration, grabbing the edges of platform is a complete mess, ladders are a real pain, and some special moves like the air impulse is a sick joke. On top of that, hitboxes are often ludicrous (remind me Hollow Knight a lot), and many bugs are still around (i played with the 3.0.32 version) : I ended stuck in mid air less than 2 hours after beginning the game (!), It's quite easy to crash the music, and often, the pad is stuck on vibrating. A last note about completing the game : it's really frustrating when to reach specific ending (i will not say good as twisted the game is) you have to google for it 'cause there's no fricking clue that tell you how to do it. I cas miss/forget some infos, no problem, but having to die several times with a specfic item equipped before moving to the next step ?? Come on...

Really liked it 5/5
As soon as the first trailer came out, Blasphemous catched my eye with it's outstanding artistic vision. I loved it's brutal gothic style and christian themes. Now that's something I don't see often. Living in a country with strong ties to catholic religion, where every small town has a church and a bell, it warmed my heart to see the best of it brought to an even bigger scale. Monster design is fantastic and reflects major themes of guilt and penance. Brutal. Loved it. A lot of variety when it comes to locations. All of them are visually easily recognizable and even small areas have a lot of thought and hard work put in them. And to keep things from getting stale, almost every major area has it's own gimmick. The world map is constantly branching, it gives plenty of room for the exploration and small rewards that come with it: collectible bones, quest items or upgrades for the Penitent One. The usual boring stuff, right? Yes and no. If you're engrossed with the worldspace, you'll find a lot of lore written in item descriptions, not unlike another popular franchise, whose name eludes me at the moment. The fighting is serviceable. It's not the best thing in the business, but it get's things done. Most enemies are a fair fight and each require a different approach. Also, you'll be constantly fighting new foes, so they never overstay their welcome. Inventory sistem also helps a little. Most of the items won't radically change the way you play, but they can spice things up a little. Boss battles are great. Tough but fair. Each boss battle looks and plays different from the other and is the highlight of their area. Strangely enough, when it comes to them there's no difficulty progression. You might have problems fighting the Lady of Charred Visage, but effortlessly defeat the final boss. Concluding, it's a game built by people who had the vision, skills, passion and dedication. No cut corners, only hard work. Something that's very rare today and should be respected.

Make Linux version available
Game is great, I bought it here and on steam, it's definitely worth it. If you are fan of Metroidvania games and you like serous themes such as religion you will prefer this game far more than others. Steam version on linux works really well and I would prefer to see it here so this review 10/10 could be justified. I am counting on you "The Game Kitchen", don't disappoint me.

A must play
Really amazing gameplay and the art is in another level, if you are Catholic and have this hispanic / spanish catholic root, then the art gets 10 times better.
