Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold

While it is nearly 20 years behind current games in the graphic department, this game stills rocks. The levels are well done and there are many small details that enhance gameplay, like trying to figure out which technicians are informants and keeping them alive. You can just go running around trigger-happy or you can try to get a perfect score by finding all the secret rooms, collecting all the treasures and, off course, killing all the bad guys.

I haven't heard about this game before. Just compiled bstone (source port) on my linux machine without any problem and tried it with shareware version at first. And I'm immidiatelly buying whole series with rott. BS is great game. And with this amazing source port it's awesome to play. It looks very nice even in these days and I can use classic wasd controls. Only problem is I need more time to play these gems!

This game was an major leap from wolfenstine 3d adding automap. it also includer features id would not get to untill the quake series adding the ability to jump between levels and npc's witch could be interrogated for ammo and credits that can later raise your health. but doom came out adding more flexibility in level construction then was possiable with the wolf 3d engine.

So, playing the game is fantastic... Till you die. Then (on my 1-year-old quad-core i7 machine) it takes FIFTY SECONDS for the screen to go completely red as you die. (The going red is normal... the amount of time, I imagine, is absolutely not.) It makes it nearly unplayable on a challenging difficulty, and something really needs to be done to fix this.

This is a classic for any gamer that loved shareware and such. Apogee always had awesome games. But it could have been so much more popular, and would have sold a lot more copies, if it weren't for the release of Doom one week after Blake Stone. A game that is worthy of play and remembrance decades or even generations after its release.
