Blade Runner

This game really does worship the movie - which is great for fans of the movie as I am, but there's a caveat. This game takes place concurrently with the original movie - which makes the story a little weird. Deckard's story is going on at the same time and sometimes the player comes into a glancing contact with that. It's fun but it also makes the events in the movie and the game seem to lack gravity. After all the replicants here seem blissfully unaware of Roy Batty's efforts for example despite appearing in many of the same locations as the replicants here. Then the locations and even some characters are from the movie while others are fabricated or altered which is jarring. The game basically recreates all the movie scenes for the player, again subtly altering their meaning in both. And finally your character - McCoy - well, his script is more like something out of a Monkey Island game. Too many wisecracks that fall flat. I guess this could all have been improved if they'd spent longer in the game establishing the characters and story - as it is, this is probably a 6 hour game for the first play through. Much less if you choose to replay and there is some replayability on offer - the game isn't 100% scripted and it is possible to get the end having missed parts. In terms of the gameplay, by todays standards it's basically a pixel hunt game - move the cursor around the screen looking for it to turn green and then click. There's no inventory management, no real need to read/listen to the clues collected or deduce anything. Even the dialogue is selected automatically unless the user changes mode which gives the illusion of interactivy - ultimately the player still just selects the approriate dialogue options. So it's really a story progression game only which is fine if you're a fan of blade runner and want to re-run the movie with a slightly different story. It's not terrible, but it doesn't stand with the great adventure games of the past.

WoW! One of my favorite games of all time is back! Blade Runner is a fantastic adventure/action/investigation game that has great replayability with multiple endings. This is one game that should be in everyone's collection especially fans of the movie, look out for Deckard from the movies making a cameo too.

Blade Runner is not perfect, and in a world of Lucas Arts and Sierra adventure games, one can get suspicious about it. However, the beautiful and distopian world where it takes place, the magnificent story that leaves you asking questions about morals, actions and life in general, and the very simple to use controls, all make for a great experience. Blade Runner the game, just like the movie, is a sublime experience. While not being perfect, don't let that experience get lost in time... like tears in rain. Time to play. Bladerunner is a classic adventure with some revolutionary concepts when it was published. The 3D voxel graphics and non-linear storytelling with multiple endings was a real gem. On today's screens the graphics did not age well, so if you can´t stand pixelized graphics, then keep your hands off and wait for a sequel or remake. Better remake than remaster. If you are ok with retro graphics and (at least on my computer only 4:3 resolution), if you like the story and franchise, then get it. It makes a great appetizer for Cyberpunk 2077. It has an intriguing story and nice music as well as the atmospheric settings you may remember from the first movie with Harrison Ford. Unfortunately no soundtrack. I can still recommend it! I got it now with 10% discount, because I just wanted to play it again badly and I had no more discs. Also the old version would probably not run on a modern machine without extra work. It runs well on my 64bit Windows 10, so don't worry about system compatibility. GOG got it right! Due to the aged graphics and no widescreen I deduct 1 star. The story is 5 stars for sure.

I thought this game was lost to time, never to make it to GOG, but here it is, much to my delight. The visuals are stunning, the voice acting is really good, and there's a combat element built in to the gameplay. This is a truly great game, and I look forward to fully catching up with it.
