Bright and engaging world to come backto

Everything Anachronox did wrong Beyond Good and Evil does right - the areas, the "dungeons" (they really cannot be called such in this lively and living world), the photocamera mechanic (horribly bugged out in Anachronox, perfect here), even the random spawning enemies JRPGeqsque combat with time slowing attack, the puzzles, and the story - unlike Anachronox, there's no childish 2-cents humor in BGE and over the top inappropriate moments. Hyllys seams alive and living, which the Anachronox universe and writing seems like it came out of that insane clown from the Star Trek series. I had, however to reduce the stars to 4, due to the obligation of racing ( that is if you don't race, you will not be able to progress in the game). That is a major breaking point the developers should have thought about. I'm buying an adventure game, not a racing game, so if you're so inclined - please include stuff (like it was done in the Gamecube Harry Potter series) I don't want to spend more than 10 minutes on the racing part and I absolutely don't want to tediously repeat the tracks (those who played will know what I'm talking about).

Journalistic digging goes beyond

A game where your job is to expose what is going in this part of the world as a photographic journalist with a bit of a violent twist to it. A story that is interesting and makes you want to keep going to find out whats going on. The characters in the game are very well done and they all have their own personalities. The part that can annoy you sometimes is the view you see things at as it can move weirdly sometimes. You can find good information for fixes for the game in the forums with widescreen and so on. I for sure recommend the game and had blast playing it.

A slightly flawed gem

I got this game on a sale I think so I don't judge it so harshly as if I got it full price. That's for starters - keep it in mind. The game itself - you have to judge it on two different levels. One is the story - it's an interesting one albeit quite linear. You can skip and "reorder" the story slightly, especially if you cheat a bit to get more money/pearls but there are no choices you can make that cause the game progress to differ or end up with different endings. The game is pretty much set on its tracks and you can't bounce it off them. But the story itself is quite interesting and engaging. The only flaw is... the ending. It was very anticlimactic for me. But the rest is very nice. The other thing about this game is the interface/mechanics. And it is where the game can be annoying if not frustrating. For the most time it's ok, but at some times, especially when the camera changes position, it can be very confusing and the fights can be simply tiring. Apart from that - it's worth buying and playin. Especially if bought on a sale.

BG&E : Un caractère étrange et doux

Je l'ai pris comme le classique qu'il est devenu et j'ai été déçu, j'en attendais trop en pensant qu'il pouvait me plaire parce qu'il a plu et plait toujours à un public. Déçu mais berçé est surpris. C'est un bon jeu. Sur ps2, il y a quelques points qui font vraiment tâches; - un bug de son, qui se répète comme par exemple le bruit d'un interrupteur, jusqu'à reload du jeu ou changement de zone - les contrôles pour la caméra, intensément horrible. Lorsqu'on commence le jeu, on est très vite amener à s'attacher à l'univers, à découvrir les bêtes qui le peuplent, et à écouter les personnages super colorés, avec une personnalité particulière parfois un peu cliché, et ça c'est le point fort du jeu, l'univers et ces personnages. J'adore la vf, j'adore Pey'j, les rhinos reggae m'ont foutu à terre. Tout ca est saupoudré d'une bande son pas piqué des hannetons franchement trop sympa, discrète et fantastique, comme son univers. La zone de jeu n'est pas particulièrement grande et pourtant à un certains moment je me suis demandais comment ils avaient fait pour mettre autant de détails sans chargement, c'est très bien pour de la ps2. Le scénario ne m'a pas fracassé, je l'ai trouvé simpliste, plutôt intriguant mais il fallait s'y attendre pour un jeu d'action-aventure jeunesse. Là ou le mat blesse, c'est le gameplay, réduit à un simple martelage du bouton X (ps2) pour le combat, avec une attaque spécial de la part du pnj accompagnant, les phases de furtivité m'ont fait chier, je me suis ennuyé.

Beyond Good

One of the best of its generation. This game has all that makes a game good. A bloody shame the controller doesn't work 'cause I played it first on console, back on the day, and now it feels weird playing with the mouse and such. Awesome lore and story, likeable characters. Good gameplay... Not a perfect game at all, no close. But really enjoyable and in my opinion a must
