Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear adds a new chapter to the Bhaalspawn saga. The events occurring between Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II are at last revealed in this 25-hour expansion for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.
Expand Your Story: Explore new areas, fight new monsters, and win new rewards in the Siege of Dragonspear expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. Continue the adventure by exporting your game to Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Explore the Sword Coast: Venture through vibrant new hand-painted areas in the classic style of the original Baldur’s Gate
Gather Your Party: The original cast returns to kick butt for goodness - along with Neera, Rasaad, Dorn, and four new additions!
Extra Class: New items, quests, and a new class: the spirit-calling shaman!
Story Mode: A difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens
Legacy of Bhaal: A new extra-hard difficulty setting for experienced players.
The quality of the story at a bad fanfic, and I can identify bad fanfic, because I had written them myself.
So I do not advise you to play this edition, with impaired graphics, lots of bugs and Baldur Gates brand attached on top.
So I probably go back to my heavily modified the original game, in which I can romance gays and lesbians, as well as Imoen.
Ignore everyone whining about "political agendas" or whatever else people are complaining about. This game is an excellent addition to the Baldur's Gate line, and anyone who disagrees probably hasn't played vanilla Baldur's Gate recently enough to have the nostalgia goggles removed.
Honestly, I'm pretty sure I had my nostalgia goggles on the entire time and I still loved this expansion. They somehow managed to get back original voice actors for some dialogue (ANY recorded dialogue from original actors is a miracle in my opinion), there are battles that are larger in scale than anything we've seen in the original series, and I personally thought the writing was excellent. I had fun just reading some of the more clever dialogue options in many scenarios, and I loved to see both returning characters of the original games as well as Enhanced Edition characters such as Baeloth.
I also find the improved usability of the new UI a much appreciated feature. Knowing who an item might benefit in the party by just clicking on it and then being able to instantly see any pertinent stat changes by clicking on it in their inventory is excellent. Even seeing health bars above enemies instead of constantly having to hover over each individual one to see how injured they are is incredibly useful.
Honestly, if you aren't looking to inexplicably tear this game down without reason before even going into it, I would be shocked if any true fan of the series, who should be used to several different authors and contributors adding to the story in their own ways, doesn't have fun with this game.
Buy only if you don't mind ruining your original BG saga experience. Writing is poor, game is buggy and you can't even play it without buying BG:EE. IMHO developers should have used the infinity engine to create an entirely new story from scratch, but unfortunately they proved they don't have what it takes. This game is a trap, fall into nostalgia and lose money...
It is a shame that this expansion has come to be defined more in terms of the attacks on Beamdog by anti-LBGTQ bigots, rather than it's content.
This is an excellent expansion, with an excellent story and I cannot recommend it high enough. Developers like Beamdog give so much to us old-school RPG-fans and they deserve all our support.
If you think that the fantasy worlds of games should be closed to some people because of their gender, sexual orientation, or race. Then you are probably one of the trolls giving this expansion a one-star rating and you should be ashamed of yourself.
If you think that it is high time that games embraced a greater diversity of people, allowing for more gamers to identify with the worlds and myths we love, then this expansion isn't just a good buy on merit of its excellence. It is an essential buy because it is in support of that vision.
A worthy follow-up to Baldur's Gate EE, combining the best parts of classic Baldur's Gate with the nuanced story and deeper companions we've come to expect from more recent games. The writing is excellent, the encounters are new and exciting, and I had an absolute blast playing it. More like this please!
I honestly can't see how anyone can complain about this expansion for reasons other than pushing a nasty agenda. But if you come to Baldur's Gate to fight monsters rather than be one, you'll leave satisfied.
