Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Troika games really know how to make good games. I am thinking, however, if I should purchase it again to support it. But I already have my box, manual, working CDs ect... And Troika is dead so I dunno how the money is going to help them (if they even get the money) Sure it's not bug-free, but I didn't really encounter any (annoying) bugs. The only really notable was that an item had the from icon. Love the freedom, love the customization, great dialogues, story. For being so epic, the game itself is pretty long. Even after my 3rd playthough, I still have new ideas for my new character, and I'm still enjoying it so god damn much. A must for RPG lovers. ps: check out other games made by Troika Games

I've played this game in my friend PC, but now I can get it to myself. It's nice RPG a'la Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment. Original plot, long gameplay and wonderful character make this game amazing. I didn't give full mark, cause it is good game, but not the best. It have some bugs, so I can only give 4/5. But if you wanna play kind of long and oldskull RPG, you must buy it. Good Luck!

This is one of the first rpgs I ever played, and I still love it to bits. The graphics (especially with the fan made resolution patch that allows you to set the resolution to whatever you want) and music combine to produce an incredibly atmospheric and unique experience, quests are numerous and complicated (no simple courier/fetch/kill quests here) as well as original, and character customization is great (wimpy characters with silver tongues are loads of fun and often capable of avoiding combat). NPC companions are memorable, and your decisions affect their opinions of you (to the point that they will leave or be unwilling to join your party) and what quests you can do and the overall ending of the game. Voice acting is excellent but scarce. The map is large and the game long. The first town is perhaps my least favorite and can involve some extremely frustrating combat depending on your stats and whether you're trying to play a character with saintly morals, but don't let it put you off. Combat grows less frustrating as the game progresses. There is a large modding community associated with this game that I recommend checking out. It has created at least one very large content addon and several mods meant to balance out the game (in vanilla Arcanum technologists and especially gunmen are at a disadvantage to mages). Anyway, this game is fabulous. Buy it. Now.

One of the greatest old-school RPGs of all time from our old favorites who designed Fallout 1 and 2. The only problem I can give is that it isn't exactly Windows 7 friendly. It works, but has the odd glitch or two. If you run XP or Vista though you'll be in for a treat.

Arcanum is a real masterpiece between computer Rpg. It's very similar to Fallout in structure (and also at the End), but the other reference for this game is Planescape Torment. Plot and quests are deep. Nothing is like it appears. At the end even the good characters will be tempted to follow the "evil" enemy. Is It's buggy, Fallout and Torment are better from a tecnical point of view. But the game has a special narration and a very original background. A rpg like no others.
