Amazing slightly mindChallenging and fun
This game is amazingly fun extremly enjoyable slightly mindchallening because the need to see foward how to build your island this game is overall amazing and really deserves a try

Like the good old days.
After tinkering for a while with my old CD version the most astonishing thing is probably that this download version simply works out of the box. I installed it on Win 7 64bit and it started right-away without hassle. There seems to be an instability related to going back to the menu screen from a game. When generating several new maps in quick succession I frequently experienced random crashes to desktop (about every 3-5 minutes sometimes in the game, sometimes in the menu). But once I had found a suitable map I restarted the game and played multiple hours each across several sittings without a single technical problem. Side-note: I did disable the video clips and tried to avoid using the pause function (since it's a video clip itself) to speed up the game and avoid potential instabilities. And I had to adjust mouse sensitivity to match the new screen resolution. Gameplay- and content-wise it's unchanged from the original German-language CD version, which is one of my all-time favourite games. The download is the so called Königs-Edition, i.e. the base game with the expansion (NINA / Neue Inseln Neue Abenteuer) already installed and patched to the latest version. If you're looking to recapture a long-lost strategy gem from the past, you will be very happy with your purchase.

Works flawless on Windows 8
I still have to CD of this game from like 1998 but had trouble getting it to run. After installing many fixes and patches I got it to run without crushing but had to disable the music. But honestly the music is 50% of the game experience. I saw the game on here and thought I'd give it a try. I'm surprised to say that, but it works perfectly on Windows 8.1! The game of course is a classic that I loved back when it was released and it's still awesome today! By far my favorite of the Anno series.

Personal best strategy game *****
Hading problems to run this game on my Win7 PC I was delighted when GOG had this in the sale and I bought it then. If you just want to relax and want to explore and create your little town and (positively) stuck/sink into it => THIS IS YOUR GAME !!! I'm not fond of strategy/real-time simulations in general but I loved it from the start when I bought it in 1998 and I still have the original box. There were periods when I played it the whole weekend :-) ! On the technical side the game crashes to a horrible graphic bug if I choose the 1024*resolution mode only the 800* graphic modus is OK! No idea how to fix that ... Nevertheless no point to take a star for this ... I can play it again and again and ... :-))
