Captivating story with food-for-thoughts
What if imperatives can be realized without compromise? The premise of the VN, "Kotodama" (an ability which propels the other interlocutor to do what was prompted, no questions asked) was rather intriguing to this nameless passerby. The narrative starts with a rather innocuously sounding Kotodama <いきなさい> (initially translated as , which later turns out to be a homophonic expression of a grossly different meaning from what Makoto, the protagonist, initially perceives to be.) The story then takes twists and turns (some easily guessable, others rather unimaginable) from there, filled to the brim with slices of (particularly spicy) youthful life, hijinks, shenanigans, and occasional food-for-thoughts. Granted, this is a VN, so trying to upsell this as a Nobel Literature Prize material would be insane. That said, motifs employed in the story were nevertheless thought-provoking (survivor's guilt, ship of Theseus, definition of "human", to name a few.) Even though the adventure of Makoto leans too much toward the fantasy side, each character's arc had ample moments of empathizable, emotional ride. The final character, Hotaru's route, was especially poignant and resonating. I tried to be as vague as possible in order not to spoil the story, but if I may add one more thing, , because it will be worth it. 50+ hours well spent. Graduating with warm, fuzzy feelings.
