Un bon jeu français parfois frustrant...

A Plague Tale : Innocence, jeu à la troisième personne, met en scène Amicia et son petit frère Hugo traqués par l'Inquisition et menacés par une horde de rats affamés. Au cours de leur périple, ils découvriront bien des secrets et devront survivre face à un environnement très hostile. Je recommande bien volontiers le jeu en soulignant qu'il faut se rappeler que ce dernier n'a pas la prétention d'un jeu estampillé AAA et reste perfectible. Points positifs : -Scénario simple et efficace -La présence de 17 chapitres -La durée d'environ 10-15 heures en prenant en compte les collectibles à chaque niveau -L'infiltration et l'action couplées -L'environnement varié et l'ambiance sonore des niveaux -Un système de craft et de progression linéaire -La tension apportée par la présence des rats dans certains niveaux -La présence de dialogues et de sous-titres en français -La présence d'énigmes et puzzles -Les personnages secondaires répondent bien aux ordres donnés Points négatifs : -Les déplacements obligés en tenant Hugo par la main -La lenteur des personnages et de leurs actions -La caméra dans certains passages -Certaines améliorations ne servent pas -L'IA des rats n'est pas cohérente parfois (vis-à-vis de l'ennemi humain et de la présence de la lumière) -L'IA des ennemis humains qui voient tout ou qui voient rien -Une fausse liberté de déplacement par la présence de mur invisible -Le déplacement du personnage ralenti voir bloqué par le script du jeu et lors des dialogues en temps réel avec les personnages secondaires -La présence d'armoiries alternatives et de tenues très dispensables (en référence au DLC du jeu) -Le combat du boss final peu inspiré Globalement, j'ai bien aimé le jeu malgré certains défauts frustrants et j'espère que Asobo Studio travaillera sur la caméra et les déplacements en binôme (avec Hugo). J'attends avec impatience la suite de leur aventure qui semble plus orientée vers l'action que l'infiltration pour une sortie dans le mois d'octobre.

Another Sony styled movie game.

A Plague Tale takes the format of the last of us with a main character escorting a young child throughout the story. While the graphics are nice the story itself is quite boring and ends with many questions that are never answered. Story wise the biggest issue is just how predictable everything is. New character gets introduced, new character drops a sad story about themselves, new character dies during what is supposed to be an emotional scene. These kind of tropes happen throughout the narrative, I can't remember being truly surprised by any of the writing. When it comes to gameplay it's rather simplistic and more of a walking simulator really. That's pretty bad in my book given that walking sims are a rather lazy way of indie devs getting around the challenge of actually designing a video game. In fact this game commits the cardinal sin of modern AAA titles in that what you do 90% of the time is hold up on the analogue stick to progress to the next cut-scene. There's no deviation, there's just a railroaded path for you to take. Think of the recent RE3 remake, that's what a plague tale does the entire time. The "combat" that does exist is just you hurling rocks at soldiers and one hit killing them, seriously. It was particularly amusing to see this done in one of the "boss fights" where our stronk wahmen MC defeats a fully armor clad soldier with a simple slingshot and a few rocks. There's also the industry standard bouts of wokeness, nothing quite as bad as what the AAA game industry pumps out but it's certainty there. Mostly themes such as anti-religion, white men bad, female empowerment, etc. All in all this feels like a project that should have been a film instead of video game. If you or someone you know likes mindless easy games that hold your hand and guide you to the next cut-scene than you'll enjoy A Plague Tale but if you aren't a normie and prefer games with interesting mechanics wrapped around an interesting story I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Almost a 5 star experience

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a refreshing video game experience. It nails the graphics, the story, even if a bit straightforward, is still gratifying, the characters are very good (except maybe for the Sauron like right hand of the villain, which lacks a bit of depth), even some gamplay aspects are original and pleasing. So why not giving it the full 5 stars you ask? Well, the gameplay never takes off. There are a few good mechanics introduces (light/dark, the stealth, shooting and crafting mechanics) but they stay way too simplistic to be gratifying. This is a set piece, a story first experience which introduces some light gameplay elements. For what it tries to do it does it very well, but as an interactive experience it could have been better with a more refined gameplay. All in all, highly recommended, it's better than 99% of the AAA stuff that comes out these days.

Hellblade: A Rat's Tail

The gameplay reminded me of Hellblade in that there were quite a few walk&talk/reminesce sections between more actiony scenes. There are puzzles that rely on your companions' abilities ala Tale of Two Sons, while the protagonist sneaks around and uses a sling and different flavour of amunition thereof. I do feel it suffers in the latter part of the game with the addition of "Heavy" enemies which can only be taken down in two specific ways, both of which were very wonky and caused me to have to repeat a few encounters numerous times. The game is very linear and self-contained levels, which to me is a big plus as you don't have to agonize over where to go next or wander through generic locations. There's not that many collectibles to gather, but we only found half of them (If that!) Graphics wise, Plague Tale is simply a gorgeous game with excellent music and sound design. It gives off the illusion of a world beyond the narrow confines of the map far better than any open world game ever did. Or ANY game, in fact. The story is pretty engaging, but it gets very wacky and increasingly supernatural towards the end (Culminating in a final confrontation that neither me nor my partner could take seriously with how ludicrous it was). Still, even with the latter goofiness, the story was enjoyable, in huge part thanks to the likable and well voiced characters. Of note is the fact that you can freely swap the language of the game audio, subtitles and game menus separately. Overall, a great purchase!

A nice little plague ala 1340s

I enjoyed Plague Tales and would recommend especial if on sale - but I'm a tight-wad and would hardly buy any game full price. Yes - it is linear. However it is a small studio and it allows them to put all their resources into the areas where the player is. Yes - it isn't a quillgillion hours long (my complete play time 16 hours) . Personally I'm over bloated open worlds with loads of busy but meaningless work, and enjoyed the focus of the game. The sound design and visuals are great, as is the animation. The voice acting both of major and minor NPCs and the protagionists is excellent. The rats are handled really well, the way they swarm and run. Ocassionally they get caught on handrails and form a 'rat-pole' but meh. The protagionists are sympathetic, having relatable motives and are well draw and realised. Perhaps they could be a little more deeper/well-rounded (as too the main antagionist) for example via snipets of over-heard conversation but that is a niggle. The autosaves are plentiful and in good places. You can't back-track often so make sure to fully explore an area before moving on. Also there seems to be only a single save (though there are three save slots... ???) - so pray that it doesn't corrupt. All the areas seem to have resources plentiful enough so that if you haven't been looting your brains out you should still be about to complete the area. If you are only into Dark Souls-esk challange or only game mechanics rather than story, maybe this won't be your thing. All in all I enjoyed my time with this game. High 80s out of 100
