Azumi Risa, class representative of the Year 1 "Snow" class, was once again fighting with the class troublemaker, Ayase Miya today. The no-nonsense, assertive Risa, and the antisocial Miya couldn't be more incompatible, with their arguments frequently bordering on shouting matches. At the time, the whole school was in high spirits in anticipation of Christmas. Amidst the flirtations of couples, established and spontaneous ones alike, excitement was brewing over the informal student poll to decide "St. Michael's Best Couples." Not having a girlfriend, Risa didn't think the matter concerned her... Until she and Miya were chosen as a pair!

Simple slice-of-life yuri visual novel
A real review, as opposed to memery or bigotry. For those unfamiliar with the AKFTP (Sono Hanabira) series, it started as a tiny, self-published (doujin) visual novel series centered around schoolgirl lesbian romance (yuri). Each game takes only a few hours to read, there's a very simple choice system that basically amounts to "always pick the sappiest option," and there's rapid-fire sexual content. These games pretty much exist solely to titillate anybody who enjoys fairly vanilla yuri. The first ten games introduce five couples, two games each. They were so popular that the amateur group developing them were able to start a proper publishing business. Maidens of Michael is the 11th game of the AKFTP series and their first "pro" release. It has a much larger scope than previous games, actually attempting to provide some plot with its adult content. Not only is the "plot" significantly expanded but in addition to introducing a new couple, all five old couples also have their own route in MoM. The choice system still means little, you get a few lines of different dialogue immediately following and bad ends are pretty abrupt if you choose wrong too often. The plot itself is pretty basic school event stuff that mostly just serves to bring the full cast together for fun personal interactions. But it does enough to develop Risa and Miya's relationship so their eventual hook-up is believable and makes the game about more than just sex. There's a lot of lighthearted power-of-friendship stuff, a surprising amount of raunchy comedy between the more outgoing members of their respective couples, and even an occasional tearjerker. Conclusion: Don't expect a robust story or sophisticated choice system, but MoM is a fine VN if you're down with just seeing a cute cast of girls have simple day-to-day fun with each other. And with the free 18+ patch available from MangaGamer, it's still the pinnacle of yuri content years after its original JP release (2012) if that's your jam.
