A fateful night of sorrow and ancient magic changed the life of a young child forever, and with it, everything else as mankind knew it. For 9 long years, the world has been submerged in the deepest of shadows, robbing every object and living creature of their color, their joy, and most importantly, hope.
Many brave souls have tried to venture inside the corrupting depths of Talos Castle, a long-abandoned orphanage from which the curse stemmed. All have failed, except for one. Armed with little other than her halberd and sheer nerve, Europa’s daunting quest is clear: enter the castle, find the source of darkness, and return color to the lands before it is too late.
However, this adventure is not for Europa to face alone. In her most desperate hour, Europa encounters Apino, a cute magical bear with the ability to heal, cleanse the corruption and protect his allies.
While exploring the castle, Apino can shoot powerful projectiles at enemies, open locked doors and shield Europa from ranged attacks.
Enhance your battle prowess by acquiring elemental armors. Master the might of lightning, water, earth and fire to defeat a vast assortment of enemies.
Use the elements to your advantage to travel the map dynamically, surprise bosses while you change armors on the fly and perform strong combos. Obtain special abilities to swim against waterfalls, travel underground tunnels or glide through warm air currents to access hidden locations and uncover their secrets.
Meet enigmatic composers that will aid you in your mission. With the special appearance of Michiru Yamane and Norihiko Hibino, both as NPCs and composers of several tracks tuned to 432hz, a soothing frequency used in what’s known as healing music. And there is more to music than meets the eye. Hidden bosses with musical attack patterns lurk in the shadows ready to strike. In fact, music is the binding thread that brings gameplay and storytelling together; from collecting musical notes, to performing a healing lullaby to restore your health, music is all but the soul of the game.
Awesome gameplay and great story. Intro looks like Sailor moon and the armors like Saint Seyia. As game description says it's like a metrodvania where you have to come and go millon times to the same locations until you unlock you powers and are able to progress. It also has this power were it becomes like a small ball and drop bombs, like in Metroid. Even one of the bosses looks like the final boss of Metroid
Kinda frustating from time to time because of the difficulty but a great game, 100% recommended
I love the art style, settings, the character portraits and music. The game is giving me everything I need there but I do have gripes.
Firstly the traversal options linked to the armors is really fun and cool within their respective elements but I feel like the Zeus armor is lacking an auto sprint function. Moving through rooms you've cleared is a slog because you can't run anywhere, always stuck at Europa's default speed. If a sequel is made an auto sprint would be nice albiet with a way to break said sprint to avoid enemies that may come on screen late.
While the 3 normal hit to heavy attack combo is nice it would've been cool to get a few more moves besides the charged spin attack. It's the strongest attack but it's window is small in some boss battles and I wish I had a few more attacks to utelize.
The bosses have been fun and make great usage of the respective armor mechanics they are a tad too easy. Granted I've played my fair share of Metroidvanias so this might not be a bad thing for me. Easy for me, harder for others but I got through some bosses on the first try, others on my second or third. Altogether they've been visually appealing to me and I love the variety. The Demon lady mini boss being a fav of mine.
The health system is fun, I had a complaint that it was very hard to die. I believe I've only died 4-5 times in the 5 plus hours I've put into the game but that might not be a bad thing. Hitting enemies to regain light is very very good and having Europa's personal health pool after the light is drained is a wake up call to keep on fighting. Hugging the little bear is always fun to regain light and keep on pushing during a tense moment as well.
I'm not quite done yet but I'm nearing the end of this journey and I feel like this game is a gem I plan on revisiting on stream sometime soon.
