Here's what you need to do:

Download Gravis Ultrasound patches:
http://www.mediafire.com/?9gz1tm02zob

Extract the archive and you will get 2 directories: ULTRASND411 and ULTRASNDPPL161.

You can use either directory; 161 is like a modified version of the original and sounds different. I use ULTRASND411.

Copy your chosen directory into the Mortal Kombat 2 GOG folder and rename it to ULTRASND

In the same direcotry, edit "dosboxMortalKombat2.conf" and, under [gus], set 'gus=false' to 'gus=true'.

Now edit "dosboxMortalKombat2_single.conf" and, under [autoexec], after the 'cls' entry there should be an 'mk2' entry. Change that to 'mk2gus'.

Now start the game and go to the options by hitting f10.

Select Gravis Ultrasound and choose Port Address 240, IRQ, 5 and DMA Channel 3. Save and exit. You may have to exit the game and restart to get sound but after that it should work.
Interesting that the mediafire link displays "File Removed for Violation."

Wow, what a difference. I was never aware that the PC version could sound so good. Thanks for this.
Can you upload the files again? Please?

EDIT - I found the files through the internet here:

Thanks for this nice tutorial. Im using the PPL161 and the sound now is very cool.

Wow. This works for MK1 too, and it actually makes the music sound better... somehow.

How did you manage to setup this for mk1? If I did the same steps for mk1 like for mk2, the DOSBox starts and closes immediately. Something is wrong in the files. I edited only "dosboxMortalKombat.conf" and "dosboxMortalKombat_single.conf".

MK1&3 use cd music. Dunno why mk2 is midi.

Also, most games were designed to sound best on roland hardware, so you're better off downloading a cvs build that supports a roland soundfont. Can't figure out the setup for this game though, so maybe GUS is preferrable if other methods don't work.

You da real MVP. Thank you!!!

I just enabled PPL161 and I think that is definitely my preferred sound. However, both are good.

Because they never updated 2 for CD audio like they did with MK1. MK3 was released on CD by default so it always had cd audio.
