tburger: GOG - I don't use social media services (such as Twitter or Facebook) relying only on gog.com. Am I lesser customer? I understand that GOG passes such messages via social channels but they should be also available via webpage.
Magnitus: Well, you and I are part of a shrinking minority that don't use those social media services.
I think at some point, probably 80% to 90% of the population will use them and having some sort of presence on the social media scene will be a must to reach a lot of people quickly.
I know I would never user Facebook for myself (I prefer satisfying my online social needs with forums such as this one), but I will certainly open an official Facebook page once my game is out and fully ready for consumption.
I don't think GOG is being "snobbish" by posting on social media first, it is just being up to date with the times.
You can always use RSS to subscribe to
Twitter or
Facebook, if you don't care to use them through an actual account.
chaosbeast: This is one of my beefs with the new PR person, everything migrated. Social media doesn't replace the old avenues of communications. It's suppose to enhance them.
Social media seems to be a better channel for a constant small drip of content than posting to the front page always. All of the big news will always land on the main page, don't worry.
I'm curious, though: what would you rather we do?
EDIT: Also: "one of" your beefs? You've got a
list of grievances? :P
