JudasIscariot: Right but what shows up in terminal? You got me curious :)
avatar
blakstar: OK, given the time, and the fact that I'm currently on my tablet, I'll give it another try later today.

BTW As an aside, Crusader Kings Complete seems to work relatively well -- I just need to see if I can sort out some annoying screen-scrolling resolution issues during some of the menu screens.
Screen scrolling resolution issues? May I ask what do you mean by that?
avatar
rampancy: Yes, I will also amend my post too, soon.

Gydion: Nice.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the reports so far. I've now hit the character limit in the posts 2 & 3. Unless Judas can magically raise it I have backed up and delinkified the AppDB & CrossOver ratings.
I cannot magically raise the character limit nor can I insert posts in other places, sorry.

The only other thing I can think of doing is you create a new thread and then make 1 or 2 page's worth of placeholder posts....
Game: Majesty Gold HD
Installer MD5s:

WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=6522
Distro: Antergos
Kernel version: 4.5.0-1-ARCH x86_64 (64 bit)
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.16
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 1.9.8 with WoW64 support from the official Arch repos

Install notes: You may need the following winetricks in order to ensure the game runs: vcrun6 and quartz.
How well does it run: Perfect
Details: In order to ensure that the game does not mess with my display resolution I enabled virtual desktop at a 1920 x 1200 resolution. The game's intro videos play in a window but the game itself can be set to full screen using the in-game menu as it supports a 1920 x 1200 resolution.

For my install in order to not have the game crash on launch I had to set the winegstreamer library to "disabled" in the overrides menu. Once I did that I managed to complete the beginner quest "The Bell, The Book, and The Candle" without any problems.

vv221: Is see you use some kind of ArchLinux derivative…
Did you know that Arch support is planned for ./play.it, and should go live in something like one month from now? ;-)
We have Amadren, a fellow GOGlodyte, to thanks for that!
Yeah, Antergos is basically easy mode Arch as it uses nothing but their official repos :)

Do keep me posted on Arch support :)

vv221: Here are a couple games for your list:
https://wiki.dotslashplay.it/start?do=search&id=gog+wine

All have been tested with WINE 1.6 on Debian.

vv221: If the certificat you get is the same than the one on the attached screenshot, you can add a security exception for it.

In the very unlikely case that some information differs between the infos on my screenshot and the ones you get when trying to reach my website, you might be the target of a "man in the middle" attack.

vv221: I despise the certification "authorities". All of them ;-P
Seems to check out and I have two-step authorization turned on my account and different passwords for most critical things so I should be OK :)

Anyways, sorry for the hassle but I didn't know what I was looking at when I first saw the error so I thought I'd report it just in case :)

Matruchus: Crusader Kings Complete

Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa
Kernel: 3.19.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit)
Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Curacao XT [Radeon R7 370 / R9 270X/370 OEM]
GLX Renderer: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
GLX Version: 4.5.13416 - CPC 15.302
WINE: Wine Staging 1.9.8

From Winetricks I already had following installed: d3dx9_36 and vcrun 2010 - don't know if that was needed or not.

Intro video doesn't show but you can hear the music. Clicking on ESC makes the game load menu screen but its misaligned to the righ side of the screen in full HD resolution. Clicking on the desktop (left side where the menu screen is missing) makes it minimize the game and when you click on the game tab it maximizes the game properly in to right resolution. After that there are no issues and the game is stable and works perfectly.
Does installing quartz help any with the videos?

JudasIscariot: Does installing quartz help any with the videos?
avatar
Matruchus: No difference. Still black screen. The only time I can see the video is if I emulate virtual desktop but then the game does not maximize to full hd from default wine window size.
Nothing in the game's options then?

MightyPinecone: I don't quite know where to post this so I will post it here in the hopes that Judas sees it and is able to sort it out:

Y's The Ark of Napishtim should be marked as completed, if I'm not mistaken.

blakstar: If I can get the game working 100% under Debian, with no winetricks, you shouldn't need to install quartz.

If I can, I'll put together another Linux machine, and see what I can produce -- you run Arch, don't you. Granted, I won't necessarily be able to completely replicate the hardware, but much of it is fairly similar these days.
It's Antergos, an Arch-based distro that uses all of the official Arch repos.

I only suggested quartz because other Paradox games whined about quartz being missing in terminal :)

blakstar: I'll see if I can make some sense out of this then -- for all I know, it might come down to something like differences in the proprietary and non-proprietary drivers. I've had some games show surprising results when run on different drivers.
Maybe. All I know is that I use proprietary drivers as I can't be bothered to switch to non-proprietary ones because a) if I submit a bug report for a native game most developers will not even look at the open source graphics drivers and b) I tend to run into games that do not like the Nvidia open source drivers.

blakstar: I tend to use the proprietary drivers on my Nvidia machines, but non-proprietary ones on my AMD/ATI ones, as the open source driver seems to behave much better on those machines -- so I guess I'm playing the field in that respect! :-)
Ah yes, I hear that the open source driver for ATI/AMD cards is the polar opposite of Nvidia's open source driver (read: good) when it comes to performance, for most games. SOMA will not work on the open source ATI/AMD drivers, though :P

blakstar: Please note -- this is not actually a game report. -- just trying to help out Judas!

OK, here's my progress report so far -- I set up Antergos (2016.3.20-i686 (32-bit)) on an old laptop of mine. Please note that I chose the MATE desktop, since it was one of the lighter ones, given the age of the laptop.

Specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD Sempron 3200+
GFX Card: Nvidia GeForce 600 Go
GFX Driver Version: 304.131-11
RAM: 2GB
Wine version: 1.9.8-1 w/ no winetricks installed at all

I tried both Europa Universalis 2 and Crusader Kings Complete. Apart from some minor flickering when changing resolutions, both games played their opening videos just fine, and also allowed me to skip them when I pressed the ESC key.

Europa Universalis 2 froze the first time, when setting up the sound during game initialization, but when I tried another couple of times, it was just fine, so I put that down to some random glitch.

Nothing else had been installed on the OS, just the necessary files (Wine plus dependencies and the Nvidia driver) to run the two games.
Hmmm, not sure what's going on then.

I'll have to try on another clean prefix I suppose :)

Thank you for looking into the issue, though :D

Matruchus: How do I get Direct3d 11 installed under Wine? Since this is what 8-bit armies needs to run.
I don't think DirectX 11 is even readily available :/ I;ve tried everything "winetricks d3dx11", disabling d3dcompiler_47 in various DX11 games and nothing seems to work :/

Matruchus: Ok, thanks. Well then I shall have to boot Windows up after two months time :)
Still, it would be good to get some bug reports for Bugzilla so that the Wine people can see what's up :)
