HijacK: What exactly do you see as hard evidence?
Something to actually go off of, such as a roleblocking role visiting a paranoid gun owner and getting shot (possibly without an indication of who killed him), or a cop which can figure out exact roles.
I suppose "hard evidence" isn't really the correct term. I mean as in it's just SOMETHING to go off of, regardless of whether it can be proven or not. It's better than just vague guessing based off of how somebody's worded something or how much they're participating, which is what I've mainly seen from the last few games.
avatar
zeogold: Here's an idea. Now, bear with me here, as it may be a stupid idea, but it's worth getting some debate over:
What if there was a mechanic whereby you could see what actions a person took (assuming that they're a power role) right after they died? This would be especially interesting in a no-flip scenario such as in the last game.
avatar
HijacK: Interesting, but unless the actions reveal results that are trustworthy, and again, actions can be redirected and results can be falsified, that is not really hard evidence either.
It'd at least get people talking. Let's say for example that I'm a cop. I claim that I visited Dedoporno and he's a mafia member, so everybody lynches him, but he's actually a vanilla townie. Then that gets suspicion on my head and on the next day, I get lynched, but people see that I ACTUALLY visited Krypsyn that night and I was mistaken due to some role which swapped the two (I forget all the names). That gets people talking. So now does the vigilante shoot Krypsyn, or is the person who swapped Dedo and Krypsyn going to swap Krypsyn and himself in the hopes that Krypsyn will attack himself?

My point is that it would be more fun if there was SOMETHING to see/do that's beyond "I don't like how you worded this, so you're suspicious to me."

That's how the majority of mafia games work though. I don't get what you're aiming at.

Unless players are incredibly dumb, chances are they will plot dots A and B and realize there most likely had been a redirection in process when your role and alignment flip. If there is no flip and the mod tells us whom you actually visited it seems unfair balance wise for mafia because what do you give them as a bonus in this case? The point is not to make it a cake walk for either faction, assuming the game works on a binary system.

I don't really agree. The intrigue of mafia is never being sure but taking chances. The mod telling me everything that has happened with player X just forces me to plot a couple of points, figure out there is a redirector in your case, and then what? We know there's a redirector and that Kryps is mafia. I am not vig, let's say I'm super saint. How does that influence me at night? I don't do anything until next day when I get to lynch Kryps and that's it. My play stays the same. In the case it seems the most intrigue would be on Vig's part and not really anyone else's.

It's a valid game mechanic. Don't get me wrong. But so far you haven't thought of how to balance it. For giving said information, mafia in this case should gain something, but what? 2 Godfathers and a Bulletproof Berzerker?

If anything, write this mechanic down and keep it in mind. It may actually evolve into a legit setup.

Perhaps I'm judging too harshly based off of recent games, but it feels like there's a lot less actual information being shared and more just blind guessing based off of how people talk.

Well, as I said, I'm not sure of how the balance works out as of yet, I'm just throwing a suggestion out there to see what you guys think of it.

Well, my point wasn't really so much as to present a legit game setup from it, I just wanted to see what everybody thought about the concept itself.

I'd return if the game finally had more to go off of and didn't stagnate for weeks at a time.
I understand. I played for years with 72 hour Days and 24 hour Nights. JMich has made the valid point of our widely varied time zones makes this an unfavorable plan.

Yes, write it down and also get someone willing to scrutinize it with you to work out the kinks.

I can not wait to come back to the game and everyone. I miss you all. I am moving to another state. I have closed on a house last Friday and my last day of work in my current state is the 7th. I will be applying to jobs with much better hours so I will once again have time for my gaming addicts - both pc games and mafia games. <3 so i will be back soon. I will be without proper internet at the new house for a bit so i only have my phone and a crappy local comcast wifi login. on that note:

Anyone have any suggestion on cheap internet options? preferable unlimited data if it is a hotspot type thing. Thank you <3

The day/night setup you mention is something that would sound reasonable to me. Aren't most players expected to make at least 1 post per 24 hours anyways?

Maybe I'll do this, although I'm not sure who'd be willing to discuss it with me.

Usually yes.

However some players have gone and gotten lives which interfere with urgent and important things.

JMich's point stemmed from a player posts in a time zone 12-15 hours ahead/behind. The other player must either post straight away or it will be and additional 6-8 hours later after work or some such before a reply.

If anything upsets that apple cart then 24 hours is challenging.

I know Krypsyn and Vitek have been willing and able to give me feedback on things.

And of course I'll always help you out.

Starting new job June 13th. I'm very happy for your change of scenery. You deserve it.

Thank you. And congrats on the new job! What are you going to be doing now? Still night work? Are you excited?

My last day of work is the 7th and I can not wait to be done. Since ive been with the company things have changed so much for the worse and its been way to long coming for my departure. My divorce is moving along slowly - but in another 20 days I can request a judge put in a default judgment since my ex is ignoring it all. I am moving to PA. About a hour and half from where I am in NJ.

And thank you Flub. It has been a long long time of unhappiness and sadness, that i tried to hide to finally being happy and doing me.

How is the little one? I bet not so little anymore. <3
Speaking of jobs and resumes, I'm applying around, and it's incredibly baffling how retail "put this on shelf X" and food "make me a burger!" jobs don't call me in, but computer companies give me phone interviews.

Maybe it's something from my resume...
