This can be implemented in-game, but the default value for your multiplayer handle is your GOG username and avatar. It's just more convenient if each the game recognises you and you can easily recognise people from the GOG community :)

Ok, sure, we'll think about it. But just to dig a bit deeper. You don't use your username to actually log in, you use your email for that. So why have two usernames (different one on the forums, different one in the game)?
