Zoria: Age of Shattering is a classic tactical RPG with fluid turn-based combat, outpost, and followers management.

You will lead a diverse team through the various lands of a Uram continent and against challenges countless groups of monsters and bosses.

Zoria has now fallen prey to the sheer brutality of the hellspawn that roams its land. Its lush forests, mysterious caves, and majestic buildings have transformed into haunting and dreadful locations. Take your time and explore unknown areas, as each holds a mystery.

Combat is bread and butter, and you will engage in it easily. Use the unique skills of all of your party members:

  • Attack from close range or distance with different attack patterns and directions,
  • Heal or shield allies with various spells and commands,
  • Inflict status aliments like damage over time, stun, immobilize, and other elemental effects,
  • Use your surroundings to use to your advantage or create new ones to separate you from the enemies

Keep a keen eye on your equipment and vitality as they both deteriorate over time. A bonfire in Zoria's provides a safe spot to restock your resources and prepare for the next battle.

Take care of each of your warriors' skill development, and it will repay you on the battlefield. Remember that having an individual with the right skills can get you into previously inaccessible places and quests. It may turn out that interacting with a specific character with various objects in the world of Zoria may lead you to discover hidden treasures or make your travel easier.

You have to be wise in and out of the battle. You cannot win the game without making progress - this also counts toward your outpost. You may regularly update the base by unlocking new wings to the buildings, and by doing so, you will be rewarded with either resources, quests, or items. Different buildings will have different numbers of available upgrades.

In your outpost, you can plan and assign tasks to your companions. Send selected party members on an autonomic mission, in which you won't participate but will receive what they find along the way. You will also get some of the experience they gain. Never forget that their lives are in your hands!

Lots of classes, plays fast

I'm a sucker for party based tactical combat turned based crpgs, so this is my cup of tea. I'm only about an hour in but so far so good. There are a lot of classes to choose from and each has the ability to deal with a different map element (like breaking down barriers or removing cursed ground) as well a some kind of party buff/heal like removing a negative status effect during camping. The movement and interactionns with the map are quick, as are the combat actions which is nice so you're not spending a lot of time just watching your party walk around. Single key-press to loot all items near you is a nice QoL touch too. A couple of annoyances so far include some muddy UI choices and an awkward formation system. UI example, your available attribute points to distribute are shown in the far top-right of the screen while the attributes and buttons to distribute them are on the opposite side, so you don't immediately see these two "linked" pieces of information in same place. Why not show the available points immediately above the attribute list itself? As for the formations, your main character is always dead center and cannot be moved. This not only limits the design of your formation, but overall it is VERY confineds space-wise. You also cannot select any other character but your main to move about with, with your companions following at a slight delay to run to their designated position. This means if you're playing a squishy like a Mage, it's very annoying and sometimes impossible to protect them by keeping them safely behind your tanky warriors. Not only MUST your mage be in front while moving, but the farthest forward position you can place a character from them is actually still in the very generous melee range of your main. So even if you stop moving as soon as you aggro an enemy to give your tank a chance to move in front, you're still so close than many enemies can still run right up to your main and hit them before you can act. Will update

Very much a mixed bag

To start with the conclusion: the combat feels strangly addicting, almost everything else is pretty miserable. Here's the details. Pros: - The descriptions of classes and skills are very detailed. - You're always being told exactly why you can't use a certain skill or equip a certain item. - You can lure enemies away from the group to fight them alone. If you are not careful and get too close to other enemies, they might join the battle. - There is line of sight in battles, which may be good or bad - There are battle bonuses for attacking from the side or the back. - Some classes have world skills that allow you access to areas you otherwise couldn't enter. Cons: - There is no intro sequence, just two or three lines of text. - There is no voice acting whatsoever (if you don't count the grunts of peolple being hit during battle). - You can't talk to any NPC who isn't a merchent or has quest dialog. If you try to do it, you char will turn to the NPC as if to speak to them and then just stand there like he forgot what you want him to do. - It seems you can't sell weapons or armor pieces, which is a shame because in the demo alone there droip at least 150 of those. - The enemies are obsessed with attacking your main character. If you play a sturdy melee, you can keep the enemies occupied, heal from a distance and have the other two char do what they like. I your main is ranged however, pretty much every melee will ignore the front liners (unless you taunt, which some classes can do with a cooldown) and rush your main, which can get pretty messy pretty quic - While you can do custom formations, you main is always fixed in the middle and you can't place the others more than two or three steps in front of him, which makes the enemies rushing your main even worse.

Great crpg

Fantastic game. I 100% recommend this one. I took 100 hours to complete the game on Hard difficulty and now I am playing again on Unfair. Knowing the things I learned the first time makes playing the game all over something I am looking forward to by trying different strategies. However the game is definitely a niche game - tactical turn based crpg with an old school vibe but it is done to perfection. Combat is fast paced even though it is turn based. Each battle taking only a couple of minutes. The story and lore is interesting with a nice twist at the end. Graphics are above average for an indie title, at times being downright beautiful. Voice acting is spasmodic, though at worse acceptable and excellent at best. Music is subdued and non intrusive and fits the world setting. You can save at any time (except during combat). There is a ton of loot but it is usually best to just sell off stuff you don't need. Crafting equipment gives more benefits. User Interface is good and controls are fine. Can play completely with the mouse if you want. There are quest pointers to help guide you. Game can be played then left for a couple of weeks and jumped back into. No complex systems to remember. Combat is a joy. I truly think it is one of the highlights of the game. There are no BS mechanics like waves of reinforcements or bosses with insurmountable health points. The only negative that comes to mind is there is no way to see what resistances enemies have during combat. You do get a codex that gives you that info but you cannot currently access it during combat. Look... if you in any way like indie isometric turn based combat crpg's this one will fill the bill. Completely worth it at full price and a must get at any sale.

Good Enough. . .For now

I'll update this when I've completed the game, but first impressions. . .It's really rough. I like the idea of the game, but considering how much of this title is steeped in combat and exploration I wish those had been a little more polished. Formations are almost useless. Squadmates don't travel in formation, they kite behind the primary character. . .Not that it matters. There is no way to attack outside of combat, so every encounter is your side freezing in position once you are noticed while the enemies close in, the overwhelming majority of the time they will go first and target the weakest character sundering and damaging their armor so that in successive engagements this only get worse. Every other encounte enemies will inflict status impairmments so you are constantly crafting things and forcefeeding your squadmates medicine. . .None of which makes anything more enjoyable. This is a game that lacks a central vision of a what they wanted it to be, it feels like something kit-bashed together from other, better, games without understanding what those mechanics contributed to those titles. My biggest complaint at this point is that I just can't enjoy anything. Everything has some built in tedium that holds it back from being actually good. There's a lot of loot, but I was still largely using my starting gear until level 7 because I never got anything better than what I started with. How is that even possible? Hell, even at level 8 I am still using a level 3 sword. Merchants offer loot as random as the drops, so don't count on anything there to bail you out. There is one encounter where you can find tracks signifying an ambush, but even when you use that knowledge in conversation the enemies still appear and their initiaitive is so high they all go before you and take out your weakest character before you get a chance to act. How is anyone supposed to feel about that? And. . .that is the game. So far it has all been like that.

Zoria:: Age of Shattering

I almost didn't get this due to some of the "critic" reviews, but I am so glad I did. Storyline, game mechanics, character development,. just fun to play, the game delivers, delivers, delivers. I really like the aspect of othe way you send out your troops on side missions , which extends your influence, gain additional resources, and levels them up when they are not in your current party of four. A truly great find - whether the dev team was a partty of three or one of the bigger league players.
