Ziggurat is back, and now it's even better! Use powerful weapons and spells to break through hordes of enemies and explore labyrinthine dungeons in this hectic roguelite FPS, while you improve your skills and discover new equipment. Will you be up to the task?

    Evil lurks in the depths

As a member of the most powerful magic order, your task is to protect humanity from the forces of evil. Face hordes of enemies and fearsome Guardians in epic and dynamic combats. Keep an eye on elemental resistances and vulnerabilities to maximize your efficiency, and earn experience to level up and learn useful perks that will help you reach the end of the dungeon in one piece.

First Person Shooting at its finest

Ziggurat 2 focuses on fast paced combat and constant movement, in which mistakes are paid dearly. You'll need dexterity, reflexes and resource management skills to have a chance of survival against the dangers hiding in the shadows, and manage to come back safe and sound.

No two plays are the same

Following the line of its predecessor, in Ziggurat 2 dungeons are randomly generated, full of dangers and treasure for the bold wizards daring to enter them. Going a step further, dungeons now have more verticality and variety, and more compact rooms, for quicker fights and easier exploration.

    Back to the Citadel

In the Citadel, home of the Brotherhood, you'll be able to recruit new and old allies, as well as improve your equipment and skills, before deciding which mission to perform next. With dozens of unlockable weapons with different natures and behaviors, preparation before a mission is crucial and may be the difference between an overwhelming victory and the bitter taste of defeat.

    Improved formula

Ziggurat 2 has been redesigned from the ground up with the goal of improving over the original in all areas, and offer an even smoother and faster experience, with quicker, more intense sessions, and more interactive and fulfilling progression.

    A skills-over-builds RL FPS.

The original Ziggurat was IMO head-and-shoulders the best roguelite FPS on the market, then part 2 came along and made everything better. The premise is the big wizard order from the first game had a civil war that resulted in the titular Ziggurat being destroyed, releasing all the imprisoned monsters on the world and scattering the order to the winds. You play the hardscrabble remains of the wizard order setting out into the world to recover lost magic and wayward wizards in the hopes of gathering enough of a force to clean up this mess. Ziggurat is a basic but very fast-paced FPS with strong emphasis on constant movement to avoid area-effect attacks. Enemies drop powerups on death, most importantly experience orbs that allow you to level up for a full health and ammo refill as well as a minor perk. You have a weak but infinite-ammo wand, and can find up to 3 more types of weapons: spells that function like shotguns, wands like machine guns, and alchemical devices that function like rocket launchers, each with a seperate ammo pool. Perks in this game tend to have fairly minor effects (like +5% damage, etc.) and your skill will make a much bigger difference than your build. The graphics are somehow even more bright and colorful than the original, with a more overtly cartoony look. Level design seems to incorporate even more verticality than the original (no falling damage) though the basic enemy AI has a tendency to fall off ledges and congregate in the lowest levels. Music is boisterous military marches punctuated with unusual instruments like bagpipes and didgeridoos. The meta portion of the game is expanded compared to the original. Instead of a full-length assault on the Ziggurat every time, the game offers short randomly-generated missions from as little as two-floors long. Each individual wizard and piece of equipment can unlock permanent perks between runs. Main downside is enemies are still a little bullet-spongey. Recommended!

Solid, if a bit too iterative

This entry improves on the original formula in a lot of ways by adding in new characters and items and refining the movement and shooting, but overall it feels incredibly similar to the original. That's not necessarily a bad thing, more Ziggurat is a good thing, but the game definitely could have gone further to advance the formula than the couple things it added. Nevertheless, the additions are good ones, which include character active skills and the campaign mode which is a series of smaller dungeons to grab unlocks. Overall, great game, worth it if you never played the original, still probably worth it if you did.

Exactly what I needed. Fresh and fun!

Runs very well on a 2013 macbook pro (core i7). I've completed the first part and Immortal Redneck. Tried Strafe and the tower of guns (not my cup of tea). As soon as I launched Ziggurat 2 I felt right at home and was hyped to play. I've already lost count of hours I spent in the game. But it's very fun. It's much more clear and user-friendly than the first part. So many awesome weapons. So many characters and different bosses! The game formula works really well in this part. Hope there is part 3 coming out some time soon!

    Fun, frantic and well optimised

I don't normally like roguelikes. The last one I tried along this vein, Hypergun, I got fed up with. It's the lack of progress that got me. But that's much less of an issue here. You don't go in for one long run, the "campaign" is in different stages of a few short levels each. Fail one level and you're not kicked back to the very start, you can just redo it. That is a huge plus for me. The weapons feel good to use. Not that much punch on the wands, spells and staves - but that's expected. Magic isn't about cannon blasts. The "alchemy" weapons - guns and crossbows - do have that punch. The enemies, well, the one that stuck in my mind is the carrot. Yes. A carrot. A horde enemy which charges at you and tries to bite you. I found that hilarious. Something tells me that one of the devs was told "Eat your vegetables... or they'll eat /you/" as a child. It runs fantastically well. On my system (Ryzen 5600 with a weedy little Radeon 6500 XT), there's not a single frame dropped at 1920x1080 even at maximum settings. Only the annoying options (motion blur) are turned off. No crashes, no glitches, no instability, no bugs. The music, as others have mentioned, is also very nice. The combat music is frantic and high-energy, and the "peace" music for wandering the dungeons is oddly captivating (my favourite: the track called "The Eye of Midas" in the OST). The soundtrack was an instant buy for me. And finally, the jewel in its crown: a native Linux version. That's no longer unheard of, but neither is it common. Since my main system runs Linux, it's obvious why I'd consider this to be important.

    Surprisingly enjoyable.

First Ziggurat was an excellent arena shooter ,and Ziggurat 2 is an improvement of any element from the first game. I experienced the game on the hard difficulty and it was (surprisingly) hard , and the hard part in my experience comes mainly from a little unbalanced boss encounters. Every weapon and hero is fun to use and now they have special effects and passives ,so using them is like using tools ;pick the right one to do the right job. And of course there are weapons that are just broken but i think it is an intended design. Amulets are now working a lot better, actually encouraging the player to use them ,and again there are a lot of them in the game. The game is filled with old enemies and a couple of new ones that will ruin your runs. Not everything in this game is so good. (It might be because I played on hard but)... there is nothing more irritating than “ homing projectiles”;and if you get to a room with not so good architecture it is really easy to find yourself in chaotic situations ,losing half of your health or entire run just because too many enemies are shooting at you at the same time. It has happened a couple times,in my play true. The story is rather scarce but fun ;beside limited story screens, the most fun I had was reading descriptions on some weapons those are giving the idea that there is something more in the world of Ziggurat. As for the heroes, they not only have different stats but they have their unique abilities; oh… and they even add dash to the game (definitely not broken *wink ) ,it really helps with traversing arenas. In the campaign there is an additional progression system that is pretty much making every run a little bit easier, additional damage there ,extra health ;stuff like that. The music and ambient are a great ;field with magic and mysticism. Ziggurat 2 is a really good game full of improvement ,and it was a really great experience to play it ; for me it is a 9\10 game field with magic.
