It's 1997, and the world is a dumber place than ever... Space Aliens have built a stupidity machine that's slowly reducing everyone's IQ to single digits. Worse yet, the only person who can stop them is Zak McKracken, reporter for the disreputable National Inquisitor, who dreams up stories about carnivorous cantaloupes and vegetarian vampires.
They've taken over the phone company... Sure, it sounds like another one of Zak's tabloid fantasies. But while most people wouldn't believe him, he finds three who don't need convincing--Annie, Head of the Society of Ancient Wisdom, and her friends, Leslie and Melissa, two Yale coeds who traveled to Mars in their modified van. The four of them must piece together fragments of an ancient puzzle, unmask the aliens, and destroy the stupidity machine.
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is a classic point-and-click adventure with four controllable characters. Solve puzzles and interact with the crazy world using the old school verb command interface. Go on adventures all across the globe and even into space. If you're looking for an actual globe-trotting adventure from days gone by, you cannot miss with Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders!
Crazy off-the-wall humor.
Beautiful late 80s pixel graphics, perfect for any retro gamer!
Challenging, mind-bending mystery!
No typing required! Just point-and-click to solve puzzles and talk to the crazy characters that live in Zak's world!
Featuring zany humor, alien conspiracies, globetrotting adventure, and interesting puzzles - what's not to love?? Nearly 30 years after it was released, this is still one of the best-written adventure games of all time. Following Maniac Mansion, this title helped launch the golden era of the Adventure genre!
This game is easily the worst of the Lucasarts point-and-click-ventures. That said, it's still a Lucasarts point-and-click-venture, so it still is enjoyable.
I played this game a TON as a kid but never beat it until I played it again as an adult. The puzzles are mostly good, with one or two that are pretty tough. I did end up looking up a guide a few times when I got totally stumped.
The thing that really brings this game down, however, are the freaking MAZES. There are, like, 5 mazes in this game that have you wandering around, sometimes in total darkness, for what can add up to HOURS. It really is like they were trying to pad the game's length out.
Even without the frustration of the mazes, though, the story and puzzles aren't as good as Maniac Mansion or even Loom. Still a decent game though.
This brings back memories. My very first point and click adventure game. I was around 8 years old and played it on my brothers Commodore 64 with the huge floppy disks. It's an awesome game with lots of humor, weird characters and most importantly a two headed squirrel!!!!
Buy it you won't regret it.
