The game itself is good, but this PC port is unplayable. NIS America barely put any effort into this port despite working on it for quite some time now, even delaying the release. The game is terribly optimized, dropping down to 15 FPS at certain points. The game uses the same resources no matter what resolution is used. Keyboard + Mouse is literally impossible, and using a gamepad isn't much better.
In conclusion, do not buy this until NISA fixes it (They won't).
Send Falcom a message: We do not want NISA touching any of our games.
For me the Background Music is corrupt though out the game. Voice and sound effects are fine but the music sounds like someone is letting it play for a second then skiping forward then play for another second then skip forward again. So I turned the BGM off but then this ruins any of the animated cutscenes [which mainly use BGM only] or the games atmosfear in general. The main issue I'm having though is the game is so unstable, when I need the game to load a new area it crashes. I've wasted hours repairing/verifying the game files, reinstalling the game, direct X, different video drivers, trying all the different graphical settings ingame I could with still no change. I didn't have any issues with performance otherwise but I can't exactly get far with the game crashing all the time.
If you are curious about the other issues that you may run into just take a browse at the steam forums for this game since the majority of reviews there are poining out performance issues and port problems. Yes the publisher is aware of the issues the game has and is trying to address it asap but who knows how long it will take to get the game into a working state (if it does get fixed).

This game is really amazing. This port and the people behind it are not. Last year, this game was released in the west for the PS4 and PS Vita, however, there was a third version that was supposed to release at the same time. That version was the PC version. It was delayed due to NISA's incompetence. Unfortunately, the game in its first release had a very poor localization and had to be redone in a patch that didn't come out until January of this year. NISA assured people that the PC version would be released when the patch would go out. It didn't due to their incompetence. Come today and the port has been released.
It's a very subpar port for our wait. It's very apparent that they had to get this game out and that's what they did. This port features barebones graphical options and a locked internal resolution. It doesn't matter what you set your options to, they will always be the same. The game is unplayable with mouse and keyboard controls and you can even run into problems if you're using a gamepad. The system requirements are not to be trusted for the above reason with the locked internal resolution.
Overall, I want you to support this game, but not on PC. NISA have been given too much time working on this port for people to excuse the problems the game has. If people say, "wait for a patch" I can't recommend that. They were given a job and they failed that job on multiple occurences. If you own a Playstation 4 or even a Playstation Vita, I implore you to import this game for those systems directly from Falcom. They deserve the money far more than NISA does.
The game, when it is working, is a lot of fun, and I can only recommend it for everyone who enjoys this genre.
Sadly the terrible port with it's numerous and gamecrashing bugs make it necessary to save constantly, so that when the game crashes you don't lose most of your progress.
Wait with your purchase until the gamecrashing bugs are fixed; maybe even until it's on sale.
When/if NISA fixes this shoddy port and delivers a functioning game, I will change my review.
Until then, spend your money on games that actually work.
Even in year 2022, while the game got a huge bug-fixing patch namend "PH3 Update", that game port on PC remains a shame. The game itself is wonderful, one of the best JRPGs i have ever seen. But i hardly recommend to play it on a gaming console to get the best experience. My trouble is: my install was working fine, a got into the game a few times til the first dungeon, but i had to make a lunch break and after one hour the game (ys8.exe on the computer) is not starting anymore. even with several windows reboots, ys8 appears a process in the taskmanager for 2 seconds, then vanished and does nothing. i literally didnt change anything on the system while my lunch break. nothing, but the game cannot start anymore. and again, for those, which cannot read texts: i literally didnt change anything on the system while my lunch break. nothing,. and on another device (notebook of my wife) there is no sound output (while other games are working well!!). its not the system, its the crap of this crappy port. what a shame. the biggest problem for those issues i have, is not just the port, but the lack of information in the internet. many questions, zero solutions from many users. even after PH3 happening. since people think, PH3 was fixing anything, there is no more effort to fix other troubles, what people can face after the latest patch.
