Pirated it, played, but decided to buy.
So yeah, that's just how the title says it. I admit to pirating this game when it came out. Couldn't buy it, because it is way too expensive in a 3rd world country. Yet, I played through it, and loved every single second of it. Easily one of the best games I've ever played, story and gameplay-wise. As soon as it came out on GOG, I couldn't resist the urge to just buy it, both to support the devs behind it, but also GOG itself. Yeah, it is an *amazing* comedic JRPG which will unironically make you cry, thus definitely worth the money!

One of the best Role Playing Games ever made
A game with great graphics and gameplay with a fantastic plot and lots of content. It is similar to some of the best games from Bioware's glory days like KOTOR and Jade Empire, but with much better graphics and greater content. The game gives the player great freedom to explore its world and some of its mini-games are good enough to be stand-alone games in their own right (such as the business management game). The turn-based combat is fantastic and there are many skill trees available to build up the main character and party members. The English voice cast is excellent (including a marvelous performance by George Takei of Star Trek fame). Despite the size of the game and the large amount of content, I could not find a single bug in the game - it is quite a quality production. The main story was humorous and moving, and many of the side-quests were well-written and unpredictable. In summary, the game was great fun to play and never got boring. Highly recommended.

And yet another chapter - Incredibly fun
As a role-playing game fan of Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, or even old Bioware gems etc., this was my first encounter with a JRPG - and definitely not the last! Sure, the dialog is sometimes a little too over the top and the battles are certainly repetitive - but it's fun, folks! The mixture of drama and humor, which sometimes escalates into silliness, was very welcome! The many many possibilities and the lovingly crafted mini-games, such as building a company (Ichiban Holdings), which at first I thought was bullshit - showed the incredible love the developers put into the game. Get into the mini-games. Small learning curve - lots of fun. Some boss battles are really challenging - but the cool moves of the specialized classes - here "Jobs" - crack every head in the end. The best class for me comes from one of the DLCs: Matriarch, equipped with the Ladys Naginata from the secret weapon store. Very effective! All in all, full marks for a surprising role-playing action gem!
