X-Com Interceptor
Excellent and under appreciated game, though I will admit that the fighting simulation engine is far from amazing.

Seems to work
This was my very first Xcom game. It might not be as good as other entries, but its still a good game. And actually, the missions in original xcom could at times drag on longer than you want especially on you 100th mission or whatever. So there are benefits to the quick in and out dogfights in this game. I tested this version a bit (may 2025) and I can at least confirm that it seems to run well on windows 10. The game breaking alien probe bug is fixed I specifically tested that. I don't know if the related pirate base bug is fixed but I am hopeful. I have a minor issue when screen sharing from a laptop to a bigger monitor where the gui is stretched too much. But if I just play it straight on the laptop it doesn't stretch it which for a game unloved as this one is actually not so bad. That it is working at all, let alone smoothely and with the most game breaking bug fixed is an amazing improvement over a few years ago. its a good game with a fun atmosphere. Its definitely worth a couple of dollars.

A good game that isn't playable well
This is basically the same as the Steam version with the same issues. The game barely runs well at all, is choppy, lots of artifacts and ghosting, and the soundtrack is missing as it was CD audio. I cannot recommend the game in this state. The game itself has a nice story and is a good experience when it works well. The main difference is that you control a pilot fighting the aliens and takes place inbetween Terror from the Deep and Apocalypse.

Nostalgia Review
I played this when I was a kid. It was my first space flight "simulator" (along with the demo of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter) and I wasn't aware of the other X-Com games. In this context, I loved it. I recall outfitting all my craft with tachyon pulsars and salvaging everything I could. Since then I've played other games in the genre but this one holds a special place for me. While in retrospect the X-Wing series was better, I like how this game combined a space combat sim with base management. When I get the time I'll need to replay this and see how it holds up today.
