Please note:
This DRM-Free version of Worms Revolution Gold Edition features local multiplayer only.
I hate how this PC version is basically a console port. I can't measure my range of attacks. I can't see what weapon I am holding unless I zoom in. No guides for weapons. GAMEPLAY IS WAY TOO SLOW! Just everything is a mess. But everybody is complaining about multiplayer. When the gameplay is utterly terrible.
It would be good if they would support online multiplayer on their servers and this is bad that they do not, but no support for LAN multiplayer is just stupid and kinda unacceptable. If they would support LAN multiplayer then beside being able to play through LAN it would be also possible to either use some internet tunneling programs, or VPN-like programs that are creating LAN-like networks or even just port-forwarding to create servers on which it is possible to play with friends who have is in other network.
I like that this version is DRM free but when the game costs almost the same as for example steam version then it should have as close functionality as possible - and LAN multiplayer do not cost anything for them and could serve as some kind of replacement. I don't know if steam version have LAN multiplayer but if not then it definitely should have and if it have then why it is not in gog version too?
Not to mention that if they will decide to finally shut down servers (and this probably some day will happen if game will be old enough) then even steam players won't be able to play non-local (here by non-local, I mean multiplayer which is on more than one pc) multiplayer (I know that specifically on steam there is something called "Remote Play Together" but this is not always an option and this is not the point).
And I am not saying that they should make DRM versions with fewer features and sell for less. Ideally DRM free versions probably should be as close to non-DRM versions as possible, but if they are for some reason making version that have less features then it should cost less.
The single player campaign contains an unskippable, lengthy tutorial which teaches you how to move and shoot. Each episode takes about 4 minutes and you have to go through it. For someone who knows how to play, this is an unnecessary time waster. Entire game seems overly complicated, I did not enjoyed it and uninstalled it.
Got this game for free from GOG.
The game itself is fun, its got everything you would expect from a 2.5D worms game maybe lacking in a few QoL especially in singleplayer. Its got silly voices, couch multiplayer, a fairly extensive singleplayer, a level editor and a fairly wide variety of Worms customization. Sure its missing a few old weapons but it still is worms.
Now for my biggest complaint, its performance. its atrocious... god its horrible.
be prepared for some wild random stuttering, bad frame pacing, doubling inputs and wild physics changes. all that happens in its gameplay and its main menu even on its lowest or highest settings with or without vsync. on a pc that astronomically shadows the game's system requirements. it is painful
The worms fomula hasnt changed all that much but a few QoL changes are necessary and would be appreciated but arent present. my biggest gripe is in its controller support. it fully supports it but does not have ui for it in menu or in gameplay local multiplayer or otherwise, so we'll just guess?
There are just way too much problem on the technical side that would hurt what would otherwise be a really fun worms game. The games last update seems to be around august 2013 and there have currently been no mods to address any of its issues.
Many ideas in Revolution are pretty cool; physics, water, and new ways to interact with the environment made this feel fresh.
Problem is, the game feels very sluggish.. and that has nothing to do with framerate. The game feels sluggish and slow. Movement is "floaty". Some of the ui is a little too big.
Biggest issue is that you can't play this multiplayer anymore. Only local games, or versus ai.
Wish they had kept some of the physics elements for the newer Worms versions, especially water features.
