Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
This game is such a classic. The voice mods to monty python for instance we`re just fantastic. Great game. I see a lot of people saying that future titles dwarf this gem, but I`d disagree. I think the games to follow could only be as good as worms 2 if they had had the same options to individually manipulate each and every weapon and tool in the game. THAT, was and remains an awesome touch on this unique and wonderful title.
A non working product, by any standard in any country the consumer protection law dictates that a business must provide a product as described and on the price shown to the consumer.
After I bought this game which is shown and sold on their site and declared working on several systems I found that it couldn't be more far from the truth.
Game crashes and you need to install a third party patch from some shady dude who made it in order to run the game.
This is unacceptable and GOG owners should held responsible.
I'm honestly very hesitant to recommend Worms 2 when there's the infinitely superior Worms Armageddon available for purchase on GoG. And the fact that this game barely functions without applying fan patches to make it run on modern operating systems like Windows 10. Gameplay wise, the game is a team-based deathmatch where you have to strategically plot out your team of worms actions as you fight against your opponents with an arsenal of weapons. Your weapons ranging from handguns, bazookas, grenades, missiles and even sheep! Just wait until you witness the glory that is the Holy Hand Grenade and you'll find yourself loving the zany charm of this game! But this can also be had with later, and better functioning, titles like Armageddon that expanded more on the tools of mass destruction at your disposal. Are you starting to see why this game is a hard sell for me yet?
I can't speak for anyone else that might have an older OS running this game, but I would hold off on getting this game unless you really want to complete your collection of Worms games and have confidence that they'll work out of the box. I also ran into some smaller issues even after patching it with the "W2-Plus" (link down below) just launching the game as is until I just had to go with the frontend where you can do custom matches against CPU teams. Couldn't really do much with the campaign either from my experience.
If you really do want to make the plunge for historical or collector reasons, I highly recommend getting this game when it's discounted just so it stings you less.
Worms 2 would be the very best game in the series... if not for Armageddon. The game in itself is pure, classic, Worms fun, but one can't really recommend buying it when Worms Armageddon is basically the same game, but improved.
My advice: wait for Armageddon, because otherwise you'd be just paying twice for the same experience.
