Mid-tier Racing Game
This is a mid-tier racing game, and it is good for what it is. I personally like the graphics, old but crisp. The musics are forgettable. The physics is so-so, still enjoyable with its jank and wonkiness (and it's customizable. You can set the physics to be more simulation oriented or arcade oriented. I personally haven't tried it. I play it on 50-50.) All in all, this game goes into "good but not great" territory. However, there is one thing that is turning it off for me: the AI & overall difficulty. The AI is ruthless and unforgiving, and sometimes rather cheating. They don't lose speed when cornering, and they can maintain their speed perfectly. If you're a milisecond late when upshifting or downshifting, the AI racers would easily zoom past you. One way to win is unfortunately not by racing cleanly, but by ramming on them or wait for them to make mistakes (such as hitting traffic cars). It becomes infuriating that I'd have to try one race over and over again just to get a third position. And strangely, I can't seem to find any difficulty setting in the game. I cannot increase or decrease the AI difficulty level, so I settle to automatic gear shifting in order to "lower the difficulty." Perhaps the difficulty setting is hidden somewhere? And last but not least, there is a free ride mode if you'd just want to relax and drive around (or if you're infuriated with the AI just like myself). That part of the game is good, the map looks good and clean.
