Description
Wolfenstein®: The Old Blood is a standalone prequel to the critically acclaimed first-person action-adventure shooter, Wolfenstein®: The New Order. The adventure, which spans eight chapters and two interconnected stories, features the hallmarks of MachineGames – thrilling action, immersive story and intense first-person combat. As war hero B.J. Blazkowicz, arm yourself with new weapons such as the bolt-action rifle and grenade-launching Kampfpistole as you attempt to thwart the advancing Nazi war machine, and take advantage of duel-wielding pipes that can be used for wall climbing – or for vicious take-downs of never-before-seen Nazi adversaries.

STORY

The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the allies’ favor, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria….

Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood - Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves - pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. In part two – The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs – our hero's search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.

Short and unremarkable.

The game teases you with the eponymous Castle Wolfenstein, a giant medieval fortress in the mountains. But you spend little time in it, half of it in prison facilities, so there is not much of grandeur to behold. Then, in what feels like a mid game, you are introduced to zombies. The problem is, there is little interesting about these zombies, and the story ends quickly with a lackluster boss. Overall, combat is quite uninspired. As an extra, you get to choose to go guns blazing or try to sneak and kill officers to avoid reinforcements. Only that the stealth doesn't have many options that make stealth games interesting: you can shank, fire a silenced pistol, throw knife, and that's it. The weapon choice is nothing to write home about. Rifles, two shotguns, a pistol, a grenade flaregun, and two redundant melee weapons. Extra finicky is that some of the weapons cannot be bound to any button on the keyboard, and you have to use a poorly adopted weapon wheel (you have to scroll through the whole weapon list). The story is forgettable, downright skippable. Thematically, it could had potential, but it mixes it with strange admiration your character receives. And the extras - collectible hidden lore-dumps - are not really interesting to replay the game over and over to get each one of them. I didn't bother with the "challenge" levels, which are apparently the same levels from the story, but with extra enemies and a leaderboard system.

Even New order was better.

I can more or less copy/paste my review from "Wolfenstein The New Order"(WTNO) to this game, that is how like the two games are. The graphic was OK,sound and voice acting was great!Playing the game mostly consisted of following a given path, not as much game padding in form of hidden secrets as in WTNO.The AI seemed better in this game:The guards did not seem periodically blind and deaf as in WTNO.More than enough ammunition can usually be found and picked up during the game, and it is not taken away from you as often as in WTNO! Even if technically OK/great,some things with the game annoyed me:I always hate it when it is impossible to save when I want to:It forces me to play the same sequences and see the same cut scenes time after time after time after...when there is something in a game that is troublesome to get past for some reason! In addition it forces you to stop playing earlier or later and not when you need to stop to go to work/school/dinner/what ever!It also makes it frustrating/less fun to explore/try out different tactics when you know that making a mistake forces you to replay a sequence/re watch a cut scene"for the tenth time"!! With the right achievement you can keep a powerful weapon in this game, something that is positive compared to WTNO where you dropped powerful weapons shortly after getting them. Not as many cut scenes and animations in this game as in WTNO, but could probably have been better with even less. It is to short, and have little to no "replayability":Spent ca.17 hours on the first round of WTNO,but took me just a little over 9 hours to finish "Old blood".Was a little fun to play another round of WTNO with infinite munition, but no Game+ parallels in this game. Had to reduce from 4k@60Hz in WTNO to 1080p@60Hz with GTX 1060 and i7 7700 to get this game to run smooth. But I lean towards preferring the graphics in 4k in the one year older WTNO... I would say WTNO is a strong three stars, but this game is just a weak three stars.

Hands-down, the best Wolfenstein game.

I mainly played this through Steam, but make no mistake: This IS the best one. It plays out like a best-of reel, with the atmosphere of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Raven's Wolfenstein, and the alternate history setting and gameplay of New Order (which this game serves as a prequel to). Combine it all with solid writing, visuals and the best version of protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz, and you basically have a Must-own for any self-respecting shooter fan, as well as the perfect jumping-off point for newcomers to the Wolfenstein series. 9/10 (the only reason why it's not a 10 is because it uses Id Tech 5 and requires a file called the idTweaker to run properly, unlike New Order/Old Blood's sister game, Doom 2016)

Amazing

Completed the game in 11 hours, 38% of accomplishments. Heck of a ride, definitely the best of the newer Wolfenstein, followed by the New Order. Played wonderfully on my Ryzen 5600x with an nVidia 1660 Ti. Honestly, one of the best PC games I have ever played.

Nazi's und Zombie

This Stand-alone dlc is for the poeple who enjoyed The New Order, it contains a similar amount of action, stealth but for budgetary reasons it has less plot and more gameplay, not that this detracts from the game as it still had its nice moments. Guns, Grenades, Gaspipes The biggest combat gimmick was the pipe, which you can use to open boxes and climb with, and later on bonk zombies on the head when they become a close range issue. The weapons are different from the base game and i would say are easier to use but feel just as powerful. Fights are still stealth until you mess it up then a 1v10 powerstruggle as BJ runs around guns akimbo and scoffs every bit of food around to heal. Best gameplay moment was the cable cars easily, fights were a pleasant mix of close/long range and felt badass. The combat serves its turn brilliantly. Only thing we are missing is a rocket launcher. Plot? You are BJ, you are in a castle, you need to break out with ecret info and save your buddies. This game has little in the way of cinematics apart from the halfway point but you arent usually lost as much as in other games since the first person cutscenes between missions lay out the goals and reasoning for whats going to happen next. So next time you stab a robot nazi you know why at least. There is no hub or padding in this game witch is a good thing as it makes it flow better. Music to my (bleeding) ears music in this game is nice, tense but a week after playing i cannot name a single track, not counting the ending credits song which was an awsome way to end the game. It may not be memorable but is appreciated regardless. Technology Somehow this game was running with less stutters compared to TNO, not sure what would have changed in the supposed one year beetween them but i appreciate the slight upgrade. it wasn't perfect however but I found it less of a barrier this time. TLDR Get it if you enjoyed the first game.
