Great game overall but unpleasant issues

Great action shooter incorporating basic cover and stealth. There are a lot of interesting game elements not found in other games at the time. Many sub-sections (due to the way chapters follow each other in the story) leading you to lose your current guns and knives pretty often so unlocking perks takes planned efforts (perks add up in between deaths though). Played on PS4 & PC with ATI Radeon HD 5770 X2 -> NVIDIA 780 SLI -> AMD RX 5700XT (4K this time). No ultra widescreen support while animated events are in ultra-wide… - Textures quality could have been better in retrospective (some are horrid) but at least you feel the cohesion as all fits together. - Textures popping up all lot like in RAGE (to a lesser degree fortunately) and was at its worse the second time in apartment; occurred with both AMD and NVIDIA hardware over the years. Particularity noticeable when looking back in New Order. - Game slows down with AMD video card as reported on the Steam forums – which leads to broken dialog audio playing at wrong the time (experienced 4-5 different times). Misc. gripes: - Bugs having you restart whole levels to get treasures (incorrect water level in catacombs) and others not showing up if switching between timelines in single game session. - Cutting grids can get frustrating at times if you mess the shape of the cut as you can’t always cut it properly afterward (got stuck a few times). - Cannot skip intro logos and game asking to hit Enter key twice to begin playing felt misplaced for PC Other thoughts: End game boss battle felt frustrating rather than enjoyable (an aggravated by how checkpoints work in my case) on Death Incarnate and above - the combat with Rudi in “Old Blood” was way more fun and fair. The amount of time the main character gets deadly injuries outside of regular combat is ridiculous and become tedious to watch. Overall a good game with an OK story for the genre that lasted longer than expected; would recommended to anyone into shooters.

Modern Wolfenstein

The story is cool, a resistance that fights against the Nazi force, that in Wolfenstein timeline, won the war. The ambience is amazing, a dark future were the Nazis won the WWII and take their ideology all over the world, High-tech robots, Ridiculous guns, Nazis yelling in German, just amazing. The story tries to be deep sometimes, but in the overall ridicolous tone of the game it kinda feels forced Gameplay wise, this game is pure shooting gold, the weapons feels right, the movement is fast and smooth, shooting sections are fun. This game is kinda hard if you want to go all-out, is very strategic once it gets difficult, it has stealth sections too, and you better stay hidden during that section, the only down side that comes with it is the performance, it slowdown in heavy sections, at least for me, texture resolution can be bether, etc. If you really wanted a pseudo-open FPS, forget it, it's a corridor shooter. Overall is a good game, with some downsides, but a good game that revive Wolfenstein like for the fourth time now.

Needs a patch

As many others reviews have already said here. There is something wrong with the game itself. Cut scenes and deaths have annoyingly long load times and have a 50/50 chance of crashing the game altogether. I played for several days despite the frustration and decided it's not worth it. The console-like saving system means that if it does crash at a cutscene I can't go back, and launching the game again just starts me at the next level with no idea how or why I got there.

Nice shooter-cinema

PROs * looks good * combat difficulty seems to be well-tested. Not undoable, but provides a challenge * levels are well designed, and varied (border crossing, force labor camp, moonbase, etc.) * combat is fun in general. Well done! * entertaining support cast (Fergus, Max, Klaus) * antagonists are built up well, they are actually scary and unsettling * original atmosphere and tone (ww2 won by germans) CONs * lot's of cutscenes and "press E to advance", low interactivity scenes. This is not good for replays, and sometimes it gets in the way of the fun * Blazkowitz is boring compared to the support cast * levels are very linear. You have to visit sections in a given order. If you try to be creative, you will have to backtrack to areas you already visited. * the game has first person Super Mario jumping/sliding parts, which are not easy with a keyboard (shift+alt+S to slide) * not enough feedback provided for stealth * optimization if very good, no hangups, no freezes (tested on hotfix version from the "two pack") * no bugs found (some clipping with guns dropped by enemies) UNDECIDED * there is a lockpick/hotwire minigame. Luckily you can ignore these (shortcuts/goodie areas) * weapons and armor is removed between chapters, even when it doesn't make sense * game length is 8-12 hours. I find it a bit short, especially compared to the size, but it depends on the buyer. Overall a nice retro shooter with a bit too many cinematics for my taste. Recommended, but I advise waiting for a discount!
