Ok first off to the people complaining that it's too expensive. It's just $10, steam has it for lower go there of you want it. But gog's prices are pretty fair. You're getting 2 separate games for $10. Alright now I love this game because of the controversy that surrounds the game and how it offended people. I just love old games that just pissed people off. This is one of the grand daddy's of fps.
This is in my opinion a must try for all FPS fans. To see how the genre really started.
The game runs perfectly fine and I have been enjoying it very much.
I grew up with Wolf 3D as a kid, and even today I'll still sit here and play full, entire episodes. I will say that, yes, it is a much older game, movement can be awkward at times, but you know something, this game helped pave the way for FPS games as we know them today, and without this game, I don't think the FPS genre would be so great.
Second of all, it's never always about the graphics alone, or just game play. And I can say that, graphics wise, for a game this old, the graphics are to be expected and shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The game play, is fairly straight forward. Shoot enemy soldiers, some levels contain dogs that you have to shoot and kill. One big note, you cannot walk backwards and pick up items. If you aren't facing the item when you want to pick it up, you won't pick it up. At level 9 of each episode is a boss you have to kill, and in each end level there is a secret that contains ammo and health.
If a dev company could take these levels and then modernize all of them, including the bosses into a format like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I think new fondness for the game could be found.
It's a great game to this day, and in my eyes, it has aged pretty darn well, along with its other FPS games, Doom and Doom 2.
