Description
The universe is in the throes of violent upheaval and change. Vast and mysterious forces are preparing for the final confrontation. A small group of heroes from distant lands must plunge into the heart of the maelstrom, to uncover long-forgotten secrets, and bring about a new era. Should they succeed, they will gain the powers of the gods themselves. If they fail, countless worlds will fall into the grip of darkness.

Prepare to experience the culmination of a prestigious RPG series. Enter a vast world of intrigue and wonder. Unravel a gripping, non-linear storyline. Battle your way to victory using your swords, your magic, and your wits. Compete with rivals or align with allies as you struggle to ascend to the Cosmic Circle. Take the battle to the dreaded Dark Savant in Wizardry 8, the phenomenal conclusion to the Dark Savant trilogy, one of the most extensive and challenging stories ever told in classic role-playing games!

  • Continue the adventure with the group of adventurers that braved through Wizardry 7, or create a new custom party from a plethora of races and classes.
  • Choose a custom personality for each character and hear them speak over 100 lines of dialogue. Kindly or chaotic, burly or surly - how your characters act is completely up to you.
  • Talk with intelligent characters who react to how you treat them and become your allies or enemies in your quest of 200 hours of gameplay or more.

Pile of Garbage

Don't get me wrong for it's time this was a pretty advanced RPG. I've been playing RPG's for over 26 years, since the early days of the Amiga. This is probably in the top 20 for most annoying of all. I'd love to drone on and on about all the myriad of issues I found in this game, but I'm not going to. Hmmm.. Ok, I'll mention a couple of things which made me want to scream and punch something: 1) Magic often "fizzles" out leaving you with your pants down, costing you a spell + mana when you *really* needed a good cast. Perhaps costing you the battle and the life of your party. 2) Magic can "backfire" which makes something like fireball wipe your own party out in an instant, yay!..what a fun mechanic! 3) There's no way to resurrect dead characters at the start of a game. There's a merchant you meet early-ish on, but his "resurrection" powder is 6x more expensive than anything you can ever afford, even if you sold *all* your equipment. 4) There's no way to a town or healer at the start of the game, you have to make your way through an insanely difficult dungeon, no way around. 5) Did I mention of a character dies your screwed basically? 6) Boring, linear hallway after hallway, with no real interesting loot. 7) If you want a game where you basically farm potions lying around the floor this is your game... There are more issues, including the slowness of combat, enemies are pretty much always in large groups and take ages to complete their moves. I can't be bothered to list any more issues, I'd stay clear of this one.. Shame as I really do respect Sirteck, loved the Jagged Alliance games..

For all those Sseth people flooding in

You're never going to play this game, are you? Because let's face it, few of you won't make this game run natively at 1080p widescreen anyway, others will look at the graphics and uninstall it before leaving the Monastery, some will abandon the game half-way to Marten's Bluff and the rest will not even finish it returning to Skyrim. Pity really, since Wizardry 8 is miles away better than Legend of Grimrock 1+2 both depth-wise and freedom-wise, Might and Magix X legacy is just a disgrace to the blobber genre and the recent Wizardry entries are just anime-heavy trash. I guess none of you have ever heard of the term "blobber" anyway, but Sseth leading people to GOG for a dollar game is a good thing I guess

Not Offline ready and Not DRM Free.

This is unacceptable. I already have this game on DVD from years ago and have played it many times through. The game itself is a classic in many ways, thought the combat can be a bit unbalanced. What HAS annoyed me is that it not meant to need activating to use, nor an online connection, being that it is single player. EVERY time I run the icon from desktop. I have to sign in to GOG Galaxy to continue. Where is the "offline mode"? This is what GOG says on the game page.... "Why buy on GOG.COM? DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play." So far NOT my experience at all. I might as well get a refund and stick with the DVD version.

Hey Hey, People, It's Unenjoyable

I watched a couple of hours worth of videos on how to build a party and play the game, took some good advice about speeding it up, went in with expectations fairly low based on what I heard about the combat. I'm not disappointed because I didn't think I'd like it, so I guess it's nice to know I was right. The combat is dumb, repetitive, and a mindless slog. For all the options in character creation it feels like there's realistically only a few vaild builds with very superficial differences between them. There is a lot of detail in the character skills but it's not GOOD detail. While some of the options may not have been precisely replicated elsewhere, there isn't enough to make it worth dealing with the garbage elements of the game. The story wasn't enough to grab my interest, the game world felt empty and uninteresting, the interaction with NPCs was severly limited. Yes, you can ask them all kind of things, but they only respond to a limited number of key phrases, so you might as well have a basic dialogue tree. What it comes down to is this: what do you think a cRPG is? If all it is to you is min/maxing characters and combat, well, you can still find better games out there, but the game system here is unique enough that you might enjoy exploring it. If you're like me and a compelling story is a requirement to consider a game a classic, then you're not going to like this game as much as some others who posted reviews here. Wizardry has always lived in MIght and Magic's shadow, and 8 is no exception. To me the best cRPG was Planescape: Torment, purely because of the story. This game doesn't come anywhere close to that, and the combat is not really any better. Complexity does not automatically indicate quality, and all this game's combat has is needless complexity. The tedious, grinding progression is not satisfying at all, and a few kitschy moments can't save this game from being the boring mess that it is.
