I really wanted to like this game. It's a roguelike / lite with RPG customisation options. Great sell.
I like the combat, I like the tutorial section. Nice theme, nice art, cool selection of powers.
I can't get past the controls. Specifically the jumping / dashing. I found myself losing more health to the platforming sections than the enemies, and that's not a good thing. The game is hard - that's what we're here for. I want to feel like I lost due to my lack of skill, fighting tooth and nail against the enemies of the dungeons... not because the dash mechanic landed me in a spike pit.
This game is absolutely amazing. Especially with the new updates which added a new dungeon. The music and atmosphere is wonderful. There is a tone of stuff to collect that all impact your runs through the dungeons. The difficulty is just right. It doesn't cater to those who give up easily, but it is possible to progress more as you collect more.
However, the reason I give this game 4 instead of 5 stars is the game's one big glaring error: You can only equip one relic at the beginning of each run! Now, I understand some may feel that this keeps the game balanced. I can understand that reasoning, but I don't agree. There are 3 categories of relics... Why not allow only one of each type to be equipped before a run? Let the player put all those relics we are supposed to be paying good (in game) money for to use. There are supposedly relics that combine and become stronger... Well the chances of me combining two relics that are supposed to is very slim, as I have one of three categories to choose from, and only one relic is coming with me, period. There are tons of relics. Tons. The game encourages buying multiples and trying different "combinations" but why pay for a new relic when I have another relic that has a better perk? I've stagnated into using the one I think is best. I have no real incentive to buy new relics since I have to only choose one.
I would be more likely to invest in more relics if I knew I could at least equip one of each type before a run.
Again, get the game! It is fantastic! However, if this one detail could be fixed the game would be Perfect. Many, many comments below express the same frustration.
If/When that happens this becomes a 5 star review with literally nothing bad to say. Great, great game.
This game is, to my knowledge, the best wizard game. I love how it went the direction of ATLA style magic, where the spells are elemental and tied to martial arts instead of an old man in a robe standing back and firing spells froms safety. It's essentially a fighting game/beat-em-up with magic. The combat is fluid and intuitive, the gameplay loop is addicting, the bosses are interesting, the builds you can run are deep and rewarding, and even the PvP is fun. There's even a modest competitive scene just for the PvP, as there's no other fighting game quite like it.
