This version of Wing Commander™ 4: The Price of Freedom features DVD-quality cutscenes.
The year is 2673, four years after the Treaty of Torgo and the end of the Kilrathi War. As hostilities died out, more trivial concerns like rebuilding what was lost or dealing with space piracy, became the biggest concerns of the Terran Confederation. Even Christopher "Maverick" Blair, the famous Confed pilot responsible for ending the war, settled down and became a farmer. In these times of peace, humans grew fat and complacent. All good things must end, though. Soon enough, heinous incidents erupted on the outskirts of the Confederation, and humanity was forced to the brink of civil war. Confed HQ needed the best and decided to recall Colonel Blair to active duty.
Just be warned that space combat is horribly broken. Anything above easy difficulty and you'll get constantly instakilled without warning.
Also the mouse controls are terrible so it's nearly impossible to hit moving targets with your blasters, while the AIs all have excellent shot accuracy. Your only real weapons are missiles and wingmen; once those run out you might as well restart the level.
In the past I struggled with getting the settings right on DOSBox.
Last week I had an itch and decided to figure it out.
I got it running but not totally happy with its performance, but Wing Commander games are so good I put up with it.
Just finished playing through the whole thing before I checked on GOG today damn it!!!
Definately buying to play it over again - looking forward to GOG's optimisation!
I knew it was only a matter of time before you gog-guys put this baby up.
But what makes this offer so great is sheer quality.
I still have the Box with the countless CD's sitting on my shelf-
The Mission are diverse and every decision you make is reflected in the events that follow later!
The pinnacle of the Wing Commander Series. Nothing that came after this one worth the brand of WC.
