Wing Commander™ 3 Heart of the Tiger™

I reinstalled this game again and again for years, just to enjoy the adventure again. It's the epitome of what Wing Commander games were supposed to be: a cinematc experience, where the fate of humanity depends on your performance as a pilot.

One of the most successful attempts to blend live action with gameplay. A true interactive movie. What seemed like the future of gaming ended up an isolated but stellar milestone in gaming history. This game did nearly everything right when it came out. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Because it suffers in comparison to WC2 and 4. The software 3D graphics pushed Pentium processors to their limits to deliver boxy ships that looked real but lacked WC2's charm. Everything in this game feels slightly sterile compared to its predecessors, right down to capital ship names and flight suits. The live action sequences are well acted and blend properly with the computer effects, but every so often a costume, prop, or directorial decision hint that this was a first effort rather than a perfectly polished production. Lots of filler cutscenes of Mark Hamill moving from place to place, thankfully skippable. And the fairly basic storyline relies heavily on cliches. Wing Commander 4 told a much richer story with more polished tools, and it stands out in my mind as the better of the two. But ignore the star rating. This is a first-rate gem that lasts longer than 3 modern action games combined. The plot and gameplay build up to a worthy conclusion to the Kilrathi saga. It's a must for any Wing Commander fan and will entertain anyone who enjoys Star Wars action, without the technological limitations that turn some people off of previous games in the series. The combat is challenging, the movie choices have an impact on the game, and Mark Hamill gives everything to a role he could have played in his sleep, with a fine roster backing him up.

look i only know this from PS1 back in the day and i have to say it was awsome number one luke i mean come on your him your flying your taking down thoes damn cats! am leaning on buying but i have to say back in the day worth it worth everying.

I'm not gonna post a full review other than to say that I love this game, I will however tell a quick story about this game. It was one of the many games that I came across at my local video rental store [back when those were still a thing], I rented it for my PSX not really expecting much as most of the games that the store had were pretty bad. The clerk handed me one of those giant, clear, plastic clam shell cases that were scratched and worn from use. I looked at the box and there, I think, four discs in there just kind of loose bunched up against each other. I took the game home and booted it up, after about and hour with the game I was completely hooked, it was so beyond anything that I had played before. However to my great dismay right around when it came time to pop in the fourth disc my PSX refused to read it. The disk was so scratched that my PSX wouldn't even recognize it. I was completely heartbroken that I never got a chance to see the end of this amazing game. I would like to purchase it but I am too afraid of losing those found memories I had of this game.

I originally had this for the 3DO, and the cinematics were far better for that system. The game play is similar, but it is very dated. While I think it is fun to see it again, it is not as good as my old 3DO version, but still a nice trip down memory lane.
