I really miss this kind of game.
I first played the Mac version on an orange iMac, a little after it's time. I played it with a Gravis Flight-stick at first, but found the keyboard controls to be more responsive overall. It is amazing what they did with this, after revisiting WC3, I really think that Mass Effect may have taken cues from the shipboard sections of this game. Maybe that is why I love them both so much.
