Memories . . .
I remeber going to the 1990 Computer Expo with my father and uncle. Wing Commander 1 was announced game of the year. The following year Wing Commander 2 claimed it. To this day no other game has had such success without close contenders. This is definitely one for the collection.

Best in its class
I remember playing WC2 back when I was about 6 think. I didnt play WC1 until my teenage years . But for the longest time I never knew how to eject. I tried "E" i tried typing "Eject". When I found out how I was ejecting all the time just to ram my ship into another. This is a must buy for any gamer.

Genre-Defining
From the dialogue to the gameplay, this game started more trends than you might imagine. It's probably been decades since I played it last, but it still holds the same appeal. They did more than create a space simulator here; they created an entire world to give meaning to your missions. Each game is better than the last, but they all stay true to the original. Games have changed a lot over the years, so if you're in the mood for something sexy and intense, then stick with the newest games. But if you want to play a truly entertaining game and want to remember what the early days of computer gaming were like, then look no further. DEATH TO THE KILRATHI!

So Much to Offer
Wing Commander dazzled me with its cinematic presentation that told the story of an epic galactic war, but this was back in 1990 when a story was seldom expected in the genre, let alone videogames. What can Wing Commander 1 & 2 offer you today that modern games can’t? Quite a lot as it turns out. For starters there’s the wingmen themselves - rookies out to make a name for themselves, old veterans past their prime, pessimists, and stone cold killers populate the carrier you’re assigned to, offering advice and dropping lore on a war that has been raging for decades with no end in sight. Then there’s the multiple path mission tree. If you don’t perish, the game continues regardless of the outcome. Victories earn you medals, ranks, favourable reassignments and the admiration of your peers. Defeats via ejecting or fleeing will earn you undesirable reassignments, a scolding from your commanding officer, and a new set of missions that make the campaign that much harder to win. The actual gameplay itself isn’t anything to brag about compared to other space shooters, but if you’re not a gameplay purist and love the concepts and ideas behind the games almost as much as how it plays, this is definitely your bag.
