Great promise, shoddy delivery.
Like others here I too bought the game after Lazy Peon recommended it. This game showed great promise and given the fact that it was made by two guys, it's reasonably impressive. That said, we judge games based on their own merit, and the merit in question is lacking. Now that I've beaten it, I know why Peon liked it — he didn't get very far. As others enjoyed it, please do read their review for all the positive aspects, of which there are many. This here is a list of the negatives, so that you'd get a balanced view between the reviews. 1. Bugs. The game crashes, sometimes scripted events bug out (the Golden Apple event), certain graphical settings reset after every start or load (Field of View). 2. Difficulty curve. The beginning is hard. (I was playing as a Ranger on Knight difficulty.) Then you get a set of Berserker armor, and suddenly you two-shot everything. 3. You can only level up to level 10, regardless of how close you are to the ending. In my case I played for about 5-6 hours without having my character progress, because I maxed him out earlier than I was supposed to, apparently. 4. The first and the third (last) bosses are the same fight. Yes, the same enemy and the same exact mechanics and stages. The only difference is environment. 5. For the final boss (and the few trash mobs before him) you get a middle finger from the developers. You see, the game lets you play as the following archetypes (sword-&-board fighter, two-hander fighter, paladin, and archer). However, in order to walk into the final boss's area, you NEED to have a specific shield equipped. Otherwise, you take heavy environmental damage and won't even make it to the boss. So ... I had to re-spec entirely (thank heavens I help all the plate armor) and fight in a style I was very much unused to. Good thing the boss was a disappointing pushover. 6. General quality of life. Tiny storage. No fast travel. Tutorial doesn't cover ranged combat, and an essential mechanic for it. Etc.
