A wonderful short experience, packed full of emotions, warmth, gorgeous art, and a beautiful soundtrack. It's a very simple game, don't go looking for hardcore puzzles here. As others have pointed out, it's a narrative game. And it's perfect for what it is.
The use of recurring motifs, especially in the puzzles themselves, has quite the impact. Hard to explain without going into spoiler territory. But it's one of those experiences that is a joy to watch play out, and come full circle by the end. I really appreciate when devs incorporate foreshadowing and recurring motifs well. Hats off to them.
I hope to see more from the dev team in the future!
This is one of those game about loss in a relationship. The drawing is beautiful and there is only music, no voices. Riddles and puzzles are well made, not to frustrating but just hard enough to make you think.
The game is two tours long, a perfect duration, because the music is quite repetitive, and at the end i was kind of annoyed by it.
If you played and liked "Florence" and riddles, you will like this game.
Heartwarming story about love between human woman and anthropomorphic bird creature. Is it better or worse than being a furry? I don't know but I do know that When The Past Was Around is a cool adventure game with fun puzzles and beautiful art.
Pretty much like Florence; maybe the art is better (or simply different) but the story is confused, and the oniric setting prevent to identify with the characters and creates some iilarious and nonsensical situations (why the medicines are in a plant vase???). The puzzles are intriguing - and less linear than Florence - but after three-four levels are tiring... something to open with a key, solve some puzzles in the area to find the key. Stop.
Even the plot twist is weak: we have a perfect couple with no arguing, no struggling other than illness and death. Romantically forced and idealistically boring. Without conflict there can't be a good story.
