Whateverland: Prologue is a glimpse into the universe of an upcoming adventure game.

Whateverland is a hand-painted point-n-click adventure game with a branching dialogue system, non-linear gameplay, various endings, and unique in-game turn-based strategy sports simulator.

Vincent is a skilled thief who decides to steal a precious necklace from a mansion of a lonely old lady named Beatrice. His plan would have gone perfectly well, but when she catches him red-handed, she turns out to be an ancient and powerful witch. As a punishment, Beatrice sends him to the parallel world she has created, where the witch traps those she considers her enemies. The first inhabitants of this bizarre world called it Whateverland, and since then it kind of stuck. Vincent teams up with a weird guy named Nick, and together they are willing to find their way out.

Are they going to make it? That's up to you!

Annoying

Run around for over an hour back and forth between 3 backgrounds, trying to get this cheese, so I can give it to a bird for some part. I was selecting the 'good guy' options and none of them would progress, so I did the bad option eventually and the guy went to attack the bird, he wouldn't give me the cheese cause he didn't like the bird, but the part is for him. Having fun yet? Nope. So I remember I have an inventory, even though it apparently doesn't have a hotkey, who knows, there's no way to check. In my inventory is a lock pick, so I use it on some box to try to free some guy and it's just random 'lock pick' tools. No direction, no idea what I'm supposed to do with them. Left click and now your mouse cursor is one of the tools, left click again on practically every pixel on the screen, nothing happens. Even if everything about this experience wasn't completely annoying, I wouldn't care for whatever the story is, because they are going for zany humor rather than any substantial story. I hate puzzles, and puzzle games that you basically have to follow a guide in order to consume a sub par story. If you like to be stumped for trivial things then you might like it? I think the art style and the way the characters interact is pretty nice. It changes scenery to a zoomed in perspective when you have dialogue options. The voice acting is off. The main character volume is too low and just sounds like a teenager or something. The other voice actors sound like teenagers that are imitating something else. I guess that works since the purpose of the writing is to be humorous. They should have had more cat.

Improvement needed

The game is visually pleasing and that's about all I got out of it. The voice acting is awful and the game tries to be funny, but isn't. Not being able to skip repetitive dialogue is also a huge annoyance, considering how forcefully slow the actors speak their lines. In the end, I would not pay money for this.

Whateverland is just whatever

An interesting art style and decent music are about all this game has going for it. Unbalanced audio, so-so voice acting, weird scaling of various art assets. The game does have a hint system which I always appreciate in a point-and-click game. I used it once and managed to figure out the puzzle, but the hint I was given was still not very intuitive. The demo took me a total of 25 minutes to complete and did not in any way entice me to revisit the game upon its full release.

Actually, 3.5

It may be an interesting story, and the story in this type of games I value the most. There are things to correct, though. These mono- and dialogues which one cannot skip are very annoying. Another thing is, why couldn't I take the smelly French thing when owner of it was gone? The icon for grabbing it appeared only when the guy came back. Nonsense. I don't argue it's not that easy to find items to interact with, because I see it as a concept. Also, one can use the hint option (I don't like it, but finally ended up using it "in case I didn't notice something"). And there was one misleading information, told by main character to himself, like if the lever was on the board (and one who played whole the demo knows, it was not).

Mostly decent but lacking a little

Overall a decent teaser but lacking a bit. - Mentioned your choices have consequences but not enough to really see that happen. - No instruction on how to use stuff in inventory, only my past experience with other games of this type let me figure it out but those games gave you more early assistance in how to use inventory items. For a player new to this type of game, they will not have that knowledge so they either get lucky or have no clue.
