Decent walking simulator
First of all, it's a walking simulator. If you don't like those then this game isn't for you. I do enjoy these games every once in a while. And so I have enjoyed What Remains of Edith Finch as well. Although I'm not entirely happy with my purchase. You play as Edith Finch, who goes back to her ancestral home to explore both the house and her family's history. This results in multiple stories about family members, each have a different style, atmosphere and sometimes gameplay. They're quite creative and it does keep you playing as there's always something new. But to me these stories are hit and miss. There were two that I loved, I've already half forgotten the rest even though I just finished the game this evening. I didn't care at all for the overarching story. The voice-acting is good. The music is alright, I think an improvement here might've made the experience more invigorating, the two stories I liked had great music. The graphics are decent. The design of the world is good enough, it kept me looking around but it's nothing to shout about. The gameplay can be clunky. This review has gotten a bit more negative than I actually feel about the game. So I'll describe what I liked about the two stories that I did love. They really took adventage of this medium. A wonderful combination of story-telling, interaction, imagery and music. I really got sucked in fast, I fully related to these characters. I completed the game in a little over 2 hours and I did not rush. The content that I loved took maybe half an hour. I might come back later to replay those two stories. As fortunately there's the option to select a single story after you've finished the game. My advice: wait for a 50% sale. I bought it with 20% off but I just can't justify the money I spent for such a short amount of pleasure. But then again, I am a skinflint. And if you do really want to buy a walking simulator, I think this might be the best one out there. I hope this helps you in your purchase.
