Weird West: Definitive Edition

As a fan of immersive sims, isometric CRPGs, strange fantasy and wild west stories, it almost seemed like Weird West was tailor-made for me. And I ended up a fan of it, yes… But it took some effort on my part. The reason for this is that it really feels like instead of making WW’s core mechanics fun, the devs focused entirely on adding details and interactivity to the gameplay and environments. The result is a weird mashup of clunky controls and neat implements that, while fantastic on paper, don’t always succeed to enhance the experience. Among many other things, you can for instance soak foes in water/oil so that they’ll take more electric/fire damage... but such cool tactics are usually inefficient and hard to pull due to the clunky controls, so they’re not really worth the effort. To enjoy the game, you’ll have to learn to live with its awkward combat and control scheme, while appreciating its sense of scale, exploration and interactivity... and boy, that’s doable but not always easy. Avoid direct confrontation when possible, max up your upgrades first chance you get, stack up on ammo and consumables, and the experience becomes an enjoyable (if clumsy) romp where you’ll utilize your surroundings to reach your goals and impact the world. WW at least delivers when it comes to the story and mood: the stylized graphics look great and unique, and the journey of each playable character seamlessly blends western and supernatural tropes. The worldbuilding, conveyed through in-game literature and environmental storytelling, is awesome and creative. In the end, I had fun playing WW, and I never doubted that it was a passion project made with a lot of love… But I often found hard to believe that it shared creators with the much more polished Dishonored series! It’s far from bad... but as unique as it is, it’s too much of an overambitious mess to recommend if you’re not “ride or die” for ImSims. A big chunk of it is available as a demo, so give it a try before buying.

Shockingly surprised in a good way. Impulsively purchased it on sale without prior research and lots of expectations, however, I just couldn’t believe my eyes once I first launched the game. First of all, design is stunning. The unique comic art style is quite bold and along takes the lead in vibe setting, while complimenting colour palette is eye catching. The introduction phase of the game is intuitive and doesn’t leave the newcomer struggling, yet, it takes it easy and lets the player soak in the atmosphere of setting. Its pleasant, that developers didn’t follow modern trend of games literally pulling players immediately into action without proper prelude just for the sake of being engaging. User interface and hints are very intuitive, colourful and well animated. Asking user to press escape key to read some hint then to press escape key to close it is perfect example since it’s not pulling out the player from action mid game, yet assures user will read information at some point. Default key binds are amazing and didn’t have a need to reassign anything so far. Intentionally won’t cover storyline for this review not to fall under spoiler, however so far it has been able to keep me interested and reading every dialogue available. As a person who walked through Red Dead Redemption 2 completely I can definitely pledge this game easily beats Read Dead Redemption 2 storyline, which would be predictable, repeatable, lacking logic and infantile in comparison to storyline of this masterpiece. This game is definitely going to be in a handful list of memorisable games for me. I would be really humbled and heart touched to see project growing and evolving without taking detours to toxic practices, such as NFTs, micro-transactions, packs, cash grabs and other practices which ruin gaming industry for both players and developers. Instead, I believe physical merch, and a dozen of DLCs would impact this marvellous project quite positively.

Seriously I think I am. I have never and I mean never seen a game before with such a slick and amazing attention to detail when it comes to artsyle and UI before. The games music is incredibly well done too. So many options and things to do. Shooting feels good and the action is also good and satisfying. Plenty of side stuff to do as well like looting, bounty missions, exploring etc. You apparently can do a no kill run like in the Thief/Dishonored games. Plus there are plenty of skills/perks for you to choose and loot to find. For me personally the main reason I end up liking a game is down to having fun and I am having fun. So there you have it. I own this on (another platform) and I think it has great potential. I'm just put off by the chaotic combat that emphasises dodge-roll-jump over positioning and use of good cover. Maybe it's just me and I just like turn-based games better.

Not your usual western but its a good western anyone thinking about getting this game I would say get it you won't be disappointed I no I was not I hope there will be a sequel to this game
