child-friendly, beautiful

Water movement is really nice Ground movement can be a bit stiff, but it won't get frustrating as there is no real threat around Although the game *only* has fedex quests, the water-walking and visuals kept me interested for the full game length. 3h30 in my case. The story seems to be written for children, which fits the length of the game and its difficulty I had a nice time. ... I still wish there was something else than fetch quests. And a little bit more of the last areas. It kinda feels like there were budget cuts towards the end

THIS is how to Design a 3D Platformer!

3D Platformers tend to be frustrating to me, because it's often difficult to know where you're supposed to stand, and one little slip means a tedious waste of time getting back to where you were. Here, traversal is so smooth, and level design is good at making you feel like you know what you're doing. With the numerous grapple points, you'll rarely find a slog if you do manage to fall. Skating around on the ocean is really fun and satisfying, too. Since there isn't any real open-world exploration, a quick-travel system would've been appreciated, but backtracking is pretty minimal, so it's not so bad. I could've done without the few racing segments, but they only give you money, which is only used to purchase cosmetics, so they're skippable. The world is absolutely beautiful, especially the water; the dark, shining colors beneath the waves and lovely skies and sunsets above come together to make an unforgettable aesthetic. Character models are fun; maybe not quite beautiful, but they have a neat cartoony aesthetic that helps to set the tone of the game. The writing, like the character artstyle, kinda screams young adult novel, but don't take that to mean that it's bad; the story is still earnest, and the characters are very likable. With all that in mind, the brass-heavy music seems a strange choice, but in the moments where it needs to be, it ramps up and becomes oddly compelling. The length is a bit shorter than it could have been, but very close to just right, and I'd much rather a game be too short than too long. This comes highly recommended to 3D Platformer fans, and also to those who'd like to be 3D Platformer fans.

Helped Me get Through Addiction

I love this game; the story is captivating and emotional; the gameplay is aight but why i REALLY love this game is the surfing mechanics and the story. i was homeless; addicted to drugs and traveling the country to get clean a few years ago. i say this because it was when Stadia was a thing- and stadia...while not many liked it; was one of the only ways i could game...and this game in particular, Wavetale; ive had on my mind the last 4 years because i knew some day i'd come back to buy this game. i just knew i had to have it; i loved the surfing. its relaxing; cathartic, touching, and just...entertaining. GET THIS GAME. if for anything; your internet goes down; you'll be surfing four hours :D

Fantastic. Short and great gameplay!

I have to say I haven't played a game in a long time that had such great game mechanics and storytelling, incredible voice acting for such a short yet highly engaging playable video game. Everything from the art style, direction, storytelling, and game mechanics was impressive. I really enjoyed this 5h Journey since I am very honest to say that not many games taken me into the story like this game. Keep up the great work. Thank you for using my time in life to enjoy this incredible piece of art. Thank you Devs :)

On the water

Another fine example of game developers almost making it but messing up in the end. A world drowned by water and endangered by gloom (a kind of dark mist) that spwans monsters. And a girl that can walk on water ready to fight back. Characters are funnay, grumpy, sometimes surprisingly deep and insightful and sometimes just weird - a nice balance. They each have their agenda and goals which not always align. The visual style may not be for everyone but I like it. Overall, the graphics are pretty good and run smooth, given at what speeds you can move in-game. It's all fine and dandy so far, but the execaution part is where it all falls apart. First, you can't save the game, it's only saved at some predefined points, so be prepared to redo possibly hours of gameplay. Second, the platforming is way too much. And I do mean WAY too much. Half of it would be more than enough. There are several instances of jumping puzzles where the developers just messed up. Yes, technically they can be done, I've witnessed it myself (live, not in video), but you either need to put it hourse or even days of grueling repetitions (remember - no saving, so you always have to replay to that point) until you happen to manage it or you need the reflexes of an hyper-active eight year old. Sorry, nope. Not all jumping puzzles are like this, only a few, but they are hard blockers and it's obvious the developers did'nt bother testing it. As the first instance is not so far into the game, many reviewers, I guess, only played a little bit of the game and gave their opinion without going further. So, either don't buy it or try to get your money back. Sadly, this happens more and more with many new games and only if enough people reclaim their money, the developers will feel in their empty wallets that they did something wrong and maybe then things will change.
