While echoes of the original release pacing problems remain, the Director's Cut does much to add variety to the experience with new features such as perks, quirks, and precision aiming. It's likely not enough to warrant a replay if you've already finished it, but if this is your first foray into inXile's bleak vision of the future, this is the best place to start off.

Despite some gameplay flaws, Wasteland 2 gets a lot of things right for the genre. Fans of isometric, hardcore RPGs will find a detailed world to explore in the title. inXile Entertainment provides deep attention to detail on an awe-inspiring level. Creation of independent currencies and social hierarchies in the game create a living environment. Fully fleshed-out NPCs with voice-overs add to the detail of the wastes and make characters more than just placeholders. Interacting with the environment may lead to new clues and options for gameplay. Wasteland 2 is full of player choice and replayability that will keep players busy for a while. With gameplay easily exceeding 80 hours of content, Wasteland 2 is not for the faint of heart. Those who appreciate challenging experiences and detailed world-building will find Wasteland 2: Director's Cut an important installment in their RPG library.

Death by thousand cuts

The game is riddles by small defaults, which in the long time will make you resent the game more and more. Exemples: No switch the game to combat mode, no hide mode nor even cautious walk while it's asked (AG). No pause before a fight to prepare an ambush. Don't throw explosives throught doors, those are too low. As there is no stealth, you have to start a fight before being able to use animal calm or robot hacking, and then, the xp reward is riduculous compared to normal fight. I received 2 herbs with differents effects, the game mixed them withour asking. You can't organize the way your rangers walk, only who is leading the party. Dialogue talents are to be used asap, if not, the possibility desappear. Use of competences are sometimes by right clicking sometimes you have to use a talent from your shortcuts, it's nowhere explained.PNJ and interactive object are pixels size, damn, it's not a point and click. It's okay-ish at the beginning but become more and more tedious, some zones are reallly big. Some competence are not really interesting (animal handling). Sniper and AR are the kings. There might be a key to go back to tutorial advices but it's hidden in the tutorial, nothing is explained Some quest ask you to act a certain way and will punish you hard if you ever try to be a little independant. And so much more. Personnally i stopped the game while trying to save tom 's wife: i received the quest, dialogue ends he runs like hell out of the screen, i try to follow but too late, 10 sec after, he's dead and mission fail. Ok let's start again, explore a little before and see what killed him. Ok a group of monster, i kill them go back to the guy and then i see that he killed himself !!! WTF Controlling A..H.... creators Before you try Wasteland 2, be warned that the develloppers don't really respect you and love to make fun of you (at least 2 party kill by detonating explosives, lots of extremly difficult safe to crack with just shit inside etc etc) Prison was OK

Didn't manage to draw me in

I couldn't immerse myself into the World of this game. I've played some CRPGs and I love the feeling of being an adventurer. When I'm really drawn into a game I love exploring as much as possible and enjoy getting to know the world. With Wasteland, I didn't get that at all. I mechanically played a CRPG, but I didn't get the things I enjoy out of this genre. The conversations were dull, the art design forgettable and I really don't remember much of what happened in my 10 hours of playing. I couldn't bring myself to playing this game after work with my limited time and I just stopped. It isn't a bad game. If you play the genre more for the gameplay mechanics or are more into the setting and writing, I guess you could've a really fun time with it. For me personally it was very disappointing. I didn't encounter any bugs and the game ran well.

What a bummer

I anticipated this game greatly. I was waiting for a pre-2006 title (long story short - not for imbecilistic TV masses looking for "passing their free time with their brains turned off"). No, I was waiting for a GOOD pre-2006 title. Well, as many people already stated: Wasteland 2 simply does not deliver. Yes, at its fundamentals it's an old-gen title through and through. No game-breaking mechanics (that would throw a game-over states out of the window), no quest compasses, no SJW stuff (no, having a lesbian couple in game is not SJW). But oh boy, it's a bad old-gen title. If not some names behind it and the title - it would be forgotten immediately. If it was released back in, let's say, 2000, it would be universally summed up as "mediocre" at best, if not "sub-par". This game is so disjointed, shollow and ultimately pointless, it boggles my mid why it seems to be so universally acclaimed. Maybe people who are amazed with it, really didn't play anything before their precious "absolute classic" - Oblivion, and discover joys of a real computer game? Anyway, Wasteland 2 is a pile of different ideas and mechanics that don't really fit together. Heck - attributes and skills are almost completely autonomic! Wait, what did you say? Yes, and attributes are for the most part absolutely pointless dumps. They don't interact with skills and the gameplay itself besides bonus skill points and some areas of effect. There's no point to take other attributes than Intelligence (bonus skill points) and Coordination (AP). Calling this system "CLASSIC" is really a joke. Also, just pump conversation skills, lockpicking, computers and melee weapons. You will find some ranged goys along the way, and 90% of enemies rush you to melee range anyway. It's really sad, that this huge wall of text world, with no real exposition (the game cannot tell the story outside not-interactive monologues - do you remember the Glow?), is full of generic encounter, where big badgers are the same as robots.

A Surprising Gem

I really enjoyed this game and was a bit surprised by the bugs that a lot of people seem to have run into. Maybe I was lucky, but the game ran smoothly for me and I had fun with it. The story was engrossing and I became attached and commited to my team and completing the mission. The NPC's were fun and interesting, especially in L.A. The game had a lot of humor and funny Easter eggs relating to the pre-apocalypse history of the world. I loved the weapons and having to manage my ammo, which is really important. The skill system makes a real difference in the game as well and you need to think about where you spend your points. A solid strategy is essential in this game, especially on higher difficulties. I'm sure I missed a few missions and did things my way, but that just added to the feel of real consequences at the end. If you're able to run this game without any bugs you'll be in for a lot of fun.

Fallout without the Fallout

Yes I know Wasteland 1 inspired Fallout 1 but this is a Kickstarted project 26 YEARS later that's clearly banking on the popularity of the Fallout franchise. And after decades of Fallouts, Metros and STALKERs, going back to pure Rangers v Raiders feels a bit empty – not bad, just basal, primitive. Roleplaying is a letdown. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of narrative choices and alternative mission paths but they're all aimed at YOU, the player. Opportunities for CHARACTER expression are really limited, not helped by having an entire squad of player-generated characters. Gameplay is based on XCOM but isn't as good (e.g. the cover system's a bit wonky). Really it plays on par with Shadowrun Dragonfall but without the aesthetic or writing or characters that make that game great. I just don't see what this brings to the table which hasn't already been done better. If I want the combat, I'll play XCOM. If I want narrative and roleplaying, I'll play Shadowrun Dragonfall or Planescape Torment. If I just want that Mad Max feel, I'll play Fallout.
