If you look past the unsophisticated 2D animations which, I think, has the right amount of resources spent on, this game balances different aspects well.
What I like the most is the voice acting. MAC is especially likeable not only because of Andrew Goulding's script, but also because of his acting talent.
Looking forward to a sequel with possible 3D animations.
By the way, the format of dev commentary is quite nice. I'll pretend MAC is filling us in by breaking the fourth wall. It also makes the game more like an interactive movie.
One of the more enjoyable sci fi adventure games in my recent memory. I was hooked, and finished the game over a few days. A nice package of story (with variable outcomes), characters, atmospheric graphics, and puzzles.
The ending I saw (not sure if there's more than one) seemed a bit abrupt in resolving one of the game's major story lines. But, that's a minor quibble, and the game is well worth the cost. Play it!
A fun indie point and click with a nice atmosphere and an intriguing core story. As a huge strength, it allows for some choices (not just in dialogue but also in actions) that allow you to set the personality of the main character, play scenarios out differently, and impact several of the characters. Unfortunately your choices doesn't impact the ending much, which is short and abrupt and somewhat out of left-field. (A 'where are they now' montage would have been nice to see the impact our choices had on different characters). But this was still a very enjoyable journey. Can't wait to see more from this developer!
This had most of what you expect from a good point and click adventure. If you are a fan of the genre this is a decent entry. This is a "classic" point and click with most of the usual puzzle solving and dialogue options, but it's on the casual end of the spectrum. Nothing groundbreaking but familiar, comfortable and enjoyable.
Warp Frontier is a traditional point-and-click adventure game. Presentation-wise, the game offers detailed backgrounds, however the characters have animations that scream "low budget". Most of the game animations do, in fact. The music is not particularly memorable, but it works for ambience, and the sound effects are equally unremarkable, but passable.
The story has some intriguing ideas, but honestly the main plot point, once revealed, will have you scratching your head, as it feels very stupid and contrived. It technically intersects with the protagonist's own story, but again it all feels a bit too convenient at times. While the game handles character drama well, the big ideas about droids, human consciousness and big conspiracies are fumbled and rushed.
The game has a barrage of puzzles. Some are admittedly cool and/or smart (the game also has multiple solutions, and you can do better by picking "more appropriate" approaches), but there is a long, LONG set of busywork puzzles, which require you fiddle with the clunky inventory UI: scrolling with the mouse wheel doesn't scroll the inventory, instead it "auto-equips" through it, while you are forced to navigate left and right the TON of items you get by clicking the arrows on the screen. To top it all off, you have to walk back and forth certain screens over and over again for repetitive tasks. The way some choices can have long-term outcomes is ambitious, but the ending feels unfortunately rushed, which limits the possibilities on this front too.
While nothing is horribly wrong with the game, it never comes together as a good experience. If the game had better pacing, or a better thought-out story or better puzzles (and shorter animations when flying from one area to the other!) this could have been a very solid adventure, however it shines too rarely to hide its flaws. As it is, it's too fiddly and confused to provide enough entertainment for the average adventure enthusiast. Wasted potential for much more.
