Warlords III: Darklords Rising

What can i say, this game is one of the best TBS games i have ever played. Not as varied as HOMM 2 or 3, but still very fun. The game is set in a fantasy world, where (in the campaign) you battle against Lord Bane and his undead minions. The scenarios and the scenario editor is fun and easy to use. If you search the www you'll find lots of custom maps and mods. However, i only give 4.5 out of 5 stars, because, compared to Warlords 2 DX., the game is lacking in content. There is little variety among the units and castles. Otherwise its fun, easy to learn and can be very challenging. You can play and finish a map in 20 minutes, or play one map with 8 opponents for 2,5 weeks. Get this if you where a fan of Warlords 2.

Heroes that can quest and gain in abilities and levels, monsters that can gain in power in fights they win. There's a lot to like. All sorts of maps and campaigns setup to eat the hours and days away as befits a strategy title. And random maps, large and small as you prefer. So why the four rating? The pseudo random number generator SUCKS. BAD. You'll no doubt experience this directly as you watch units "magically" get on a roll and wipe out chunks of enemies they had no business doing so. Funny when it's you on the roll, but when you're on the receiving end, it can make one want to go all German Kid. You can't say you haven't been warned.
